Hi there,
Please bear with me as I have no idea about all this techological stuff! Thanks!
We live in rural KZN - there is a Vodacom tower across the way from us (on a distant hill). No other companies have coverage here - not MTN, not 8ta - only Vodacom (and so maybe Cell C)?
I am currently using the K3770 stick -i.e. vodacom - R149 per month - 1 year contract - 2GB per month.
This has worked ok for the last year - I seem to connect mostly on Edge (3 bars) through the Vodacom Tower. But in certain areas of the house, the stick light goes blue and I then get a much faster 3G signal (1 bar) which is great.
But it also sometimes drops to 2 bars on Edge or it goes to GPRS, and then I can't even open Google, which can be frustrating, but it's not tooooo bad.
But generally it sits at 3 bars on Edge for a large proportion of the day and that seems to be fine for me (although a 3G signal would be better of course!).
I have an internet business though, so I need a generally good/fast internet connection most of the time.
But now my contract is running out and Vodacom is only offering me a 2 year contract for the same price. I am looking for a 1 year contract as I may be going overseas in a year.
I was thus looking at Cell C and I wanted to get their R1999 special (i.e. 24 GB) - but now I don't want to get it in case it doesn't work on the Vodacom Tower?
If anyone can offer me some advice on this, I would be very grateful! I did see someone mentioning that I might only get Edge, but that I could use something called MDMA to get it on to 3G (what is MDMA and how do I get it - do I have to pay for it? And does it work very well or am I going to have problems?)
I was also wondering if anyone knew when this Cell C special is on until and, a long shot here - but also might my Vodacom sticks work with Cell-C sims? (i.e. then I don't have to get the combined 'sim and stick' deal from Cell C - I can just get the sim?)
Thanks SO much for all your help. And I apologise if these questions have been covered already in the forums - I have virtually no GB left on my stick, so I am not able to surf around.
Thanks again!
