Im going to have to put up another wifi mast at one of our branches. Im thinking of taking a 3meter aluminum mast. Then mount about 1 meter to the wall and allow 2 meter to stick out. Does anybody think i should use stay wires or will it not be necessary?

We are mostly going to use voip over the wireless. Im planning to put a 27dbi 5ghz grid, 15dbi 5ghz 120' sector and a 12dbi 2.4ghz omni on it. Also want to get a 2meter lmr400 cable's so that the box can be at the bottom.

Depends on the environment.

If it's not windy, then stay wires won't be needed.

But if the environment is very windy, then you might need stay wires.

Will the pole be in a secure area, seeing that the box will be at the bottom? Best get a box which can be securely locked and bolted to either the pole or the wall. ;) Otherwise it might get a walkabout to the back of beyond :D

We are located in Oudtshoorn. Not strong winds but the wind does blow some times in the afternoon or before a storm.

I have put 4 stay wires on my 6 meter pole and i don't get any connection lost.

The pole will be mounted on top of a rooftop, it will only be accessible by a long ladder

Go for galvanized steel rather than aluminum as it is a bit stronger. But on a 3m mast, no, you won't need stay wires.

Try to mount it to the wall using 2x mounting tripods rather than one, that makes it extremely solid.

Edit: One last thing, try to put your top mounting as high up the wall as possible, then move your bottom mounting as far down as that your pole allows. That way you lock down more of your pole and you have less chance of it swaying in the wind.
