Yah, but I think we were talking about gaming here. With a smart TV factored in you don't even need a PC for internet browsing, Youtube etc.

Which then means you also don't need a console. If that is the criteria.

Wife was given R 30k to get herself an office set-up at home. We already have a printer, scanner and fax machine. Told her I'll build an Epic rig, and she can use my PC for work. Still a bit of convincing her laying ahead, but I'm sure I'll convince her. Win/Win :p

These days one wants a smart TV for both watching movies and playing games. For example, a PS4 Pro with a good 4k/HDR TV is the bomb.

Then again, you don't need a console to watch movies on a smart TV.

The whole argument is moot tbh. It's not suppose to be a console vs PC debate. Pushing the numbers, it's reaching a point now where it's cheaper to upgrade a PC yearly and buying cheaper games as opposed to being stuck with a console and paying R 1k a game for x number of years. One can easily sell your old card and buy a new one with adding a few rand every year when the new GPUs launch. There is a huge market for second hand "newish" cards for those who can't buy the best and latest.

The start-up will be one hell of a chunk of change, but keeping your PC up to date in the long run will be cheaper and the games are way cheaper too :p

I don't agree. I can buy console games quite cheaply on specials etc (let alone like at places like BT games) plus play exclusives that either never hit PC or do so ages afterwards.

Also, I don't buy hoards of games that I never play. I review games carefully and choose the best which take my fancy - which I take my time with. So don't actually end up spending that much on games.

Plus there is no hassle with having to upgrade.

Like I said, it's not a console vs PC debate. You prefer Console, and I find no fault with it. I prefer PC but also have a PS4 for the kids and my odd days I want to lay on the couch and play something. I just don't see the need of me having to spend money on a new console unless it has backward compatibility. But that is my person view and choice. PS4 will be going for many years. No need for a PS5.

I was commenting on the pricing thing. But yes, each to their own.

I would hate to use a smart tv for work, no thanks.

Good point though. I you have a decent CPU and Mobo. Upgrading ram and GPU doesn't cost that much. Probably in-line with a new gen console. Of which the obvious choice price wise would be upgrading the PC. But purely by my preference

Ultimately, as long as there is gaming box that sits neatly in the stand under the TV and plays games right out of the box without any elaborate setup, there will be Joe Shmoes who will be willing to pay for it. Like me. :p

The 8th console Gen is at its closing stages according to the media. Yet in South Africa there are a shocking amount people still using and buying PS3 and Xbox 360 Games, a friend of mine has a side hustle of reselling this gem era games and has a lot of customers. Personally there are very few people I know who own current gen consoles and I've noticed the console gaming sections in stores grow smaller over the years.

Hell no, I'll rocking playstation till I'm red and dead. I've had (or have) every playstation console ( vita sucks, gave it to a family member)... No point in stopping now :)
