Winter has already started.
The astronomical midpoint between the Solstice and Equinox was passed on May 5th.

So yes, there has already been Winter loadshedding.

What a load of crap. And to be honest quite a slap in the face to issue such a statement knowing 110% they will never in a million years be able to meet the winter electricity demand.

Great, so Tshwane's super unfair schedule means I will be out of power every day in winter from 17:00 - 18:00 while whoever has the morning slots will never be load-shed.

I should just move to Cape Town.

and then there’s Chris Yelland.

South Africans should expect more load shedding, more frequently.

Between a good story & the truth I'd rather hear the truth.

In fact we should start a pool.. winner is the guess that's closest to the day that Eskom 'winter loadshedding' starts after 1 June. Or something.

How will they spin this story?
Heaters require electricity.

You shouldn't use non-essential items like your heater, geyser, pool pump, stove, microwave, fridge, freezer, kettle, hair dryer etc. Basically as long as you watch TV you're ok - as long as it isn't a big TV (i.e a DSTV Walka should be ok).

So in winter we only watch TV and use no more electricity?

Obviously it was supposed to be sarcastic - a bit. But in honesty, Eskom WILL tell you to please switch off your heater as they already tell you to switch off you geyser, swimming pool pump, and - my biggest gripe - your oven/stove. These are the things that consume the most electricity.

Yes a stove/oven takes a ton of electricity. But surely the one thing you will need during the peak evening times is a stove - how else am I supposed to cook?

A geyser I can understand- it stays hot in any case. Same for a swimming pool pump. But the primary way most people prepare dinner? That's just insane.

Just keep Soweto off. There's a lot more power to go around without the freeloaders sucking the system dry.

How will they spin this story?

After 1 June they will simply coin a new word for "load shedding".

So there won't be anymore "load shedding" but instead there will be "load rotation", "power sharing" or "electricity limiting" etc. and all will be good.

Everyone I've spoken to who would have a good idea of what is coming says winter will be terrible in regards to load shedding. Not looking forward to it.
