Hey guys. I've ordered my PC but the place that I ordered from has told me that they are out of stock of the caviar black hard drives. would it be possible to setup the PC on a 500GB caviar blue from my old PC then in a month when the other HDD comes clone the drive over? Will I have any issues?
thanks

If both drives uses the SATA interface (they probably do), then you can do it.

If it's just a hard drive swap and you are installing Windows from fresh on the 500GB, then there should be no issues cloning the drive. If the 500GB already has Windows on it, you'll probably have issues getting Windows up and running on the new hardware.

I recently cloned a 320GB disk with 2 partitions onto a 1TB with no issues and expanding the partitions. I used Macrium Reflect Free Edition. Just make sure you don't use a dynamic disk when you install as the free edition doesn't support it.

I changed my system drive from a HDD to smaller capacity SSD recently. I used EaseUS Partition Master to image the HDD to the SSD. Worked perfectly. It's a free app and is available here.

I would cancel the caviar black drive and get an SSD for operating. Then use your blue drive for extra storage. :)

Just my thoughts, but I guess depends on your budget.

Coming back to original question, there is software that will seamlessly clone your drive, even to smaller partitions. See suggestions above. I personally use Acronis. (but it's not free)
