Hi all
If my contract with Vodacom runs out and I don't upgrade or sign again for 24 months, will they automatically drop the device cost from my monthly invoice and only charge me for the bundle package part on a month to month basis?

I remember quite a few years ago my dad was in this situation and without him really noticing, Vodacom kept invoicing him for the phone for almost a year after his contract ran out. As I say he didn't really take note so partly due to his own neglect as well.

So will Vodacom drop the device charge automatically after 24 months or will they try to sneaky sneaky get more money from me?

Mine dropped automatically. They however also stopped the free 1 Gb of data that came with the contract

i dunno... have several business contracts which came with router (big B970 or little mifi) and voda has been happily continuing the same charge after renewal date... only way to stop is to renew with new sim-only data contract, if the existing router still going, or change to new contract, or terminate altogether

They do.
My contract ended in May. I finally got around to going in to see what new phone I wanted last month, and there was none. Was happy to see I was only paying for data/voice and not device.
Converted the contract to a 2GB Data with just a few mins per month, month to month, and left. Quite pleased actually.

I am always paranoid about this, but they have actually dropped the finance charges on a few devices (over a few years) on time.

I was in a pickle last year and had to prematurely upgrade a contract. I ended up paying 2 device finance charges for 6 months.

No, not as far as I know. Remember the "contract" that you signed is not just for getting a device it could include data, sms and airtime that you should get for, let say 24 months, at a specific tariff. At the end of the term the device would belong to you but the tariff of the rest is not specified anymore and could become very expensive...and it's all "legal"
