Hey Guys,

Wondering what your thoughts are on Vodacom either matching or beating the new Telkom Mobile contracts/prepaid bundles.

Do you reckon there is even a possibility of this occurring?

Telkom Mobile contracts are priced as follows:

1GB: R99
2GB: R149
5GB: R299
10GB: R399
20GB: R599
Unlimited: R999

These prices seem like a no-brainer in terms of switching across to Telkom Mobile.

Cheers!

Vodacom will never match. They are still living in 1998 thinking they are the only ones with a decent network.

Price isn't what Vodacom competes with. They compete on Network quality and performance.

Personally, I think the only thing that differentiates them is service, specifically brick-and-mortar shop service.

If/when the rest catch up, the playing field will be level.

That too. The reason Vodacom can charge more is because they have the service and the network to back it up. And people pay it. In the what can Vodacom improve thread almost every complaint was about price. That tells me what they're doing is working. They have no reason to lower prices.

Never.
Vodacom says if you want data in Daggafontein we will provide.
Telkom will say no.

Lollies. Pull the other one.
I was a VC subscriber for more than 10 years. I switched because they can't give me decent reception at my home- I live in Pretoria... not some no-name little town in the middle of nowhere.

Network quality my ass.

Just my 2c, not aimed at you specifically Chevron.

Vodacom will always argue their network is better than anybody else. Recent tests on MyBB prove they are right.

So while they can make this claim, they will always say you get what you pay for.

So no, Vodacom will not change their pricing. I think MTN and Cell C need to fight for more market share.

Vodacom will only budge once they see an impact on their subscriber base.

There will always be exceptions with network quality. No single provider can claim they have every single centimeter covered.

Was with Vodacom before but, way too expensive for me. As far as network is concerned I've never had a problem but, with Telkom I get what want at an affordable price. Value for money.

So they've figured out a way to extort people and you think that's just hunky dory?

To clear up my position better. If the prices they charged were really too high you'd switch to another provider. If you haven't switched yet it means that you think the service and technology they provide is worth the cost.

On my side, I'm personally scared of something going wrong during the porting exercise and having issues with billing, no service and who knows what else in the time. It's the same issue that makes me stick to my ISP and rather stick to the rule 'if it works, leave it'

That said, I'd love Vodacom to re-look at it's contracts. I don't expect them to match on price - but at least be competitive in some way!

I need 240 minutes and 2GB data and there isn't much choice :

Smart More Data 2GB @ R349.00 - but then 50 minutes
Smart L will give me 250 minutes @ R529.00 - but then 500MB

Maybe some type of balance

At Game they have a Mifi Router from Vodacom which gives you 10gb anytime data and 10Gb night date for R299. Only catch is it does not support LTE.
But then again I get max 8mb/s off peak times on 3G/HSPA which is ok for me.

Vodacom business contracts are still the best value for money for them to run if ypu can pick up a special. I hooked up 60GB LTE for R549 per month + VOIP on a double data offer and I'm very happy. Ockie did a great job helping me out. Speed isn't the best but over 1MB /s is very good for that price and includes a free 5Ghz router. Telkom is faster though here in Claremont but customer service sucks - not that you need it too often though.

Pity their (Vodacom) service is so poor, i cannot believe that in 2016 their call centre is STILL so useless, unprofessional and apathetic...

Been on Vodacom prepaid for the last year. Voice quality and coverage has been flawless. Social media help also 10 out of 10. I have always wanted to go MTN +Afrihost APN but I just do not trust MTN enough to give them my primary voice number which is business critical. Their support is pathetic and non existent. Vodacom Data is pricey although I have been able to swallow getting by on the 6x 500mb bundle for R349 once off.

But now that Telkom is 69c per minute with free landline, on net and whatsapp, it is time for me to probably port over and at least try them for 60 days. My only concern is their voice quality and how well my handset will switch over to MTN when I travel and TM coverage is bad. I have no data concerns at the LTE uncapped is flawless at the office.....

Vodacom would keep me if they brought their per minute closer to 70c/minute....
