Will your next car be new or pre-owned?

learned that new isnt necessarily better,
but conversely Pre owned needs to be designed well enough to maintain its value in the long term.
easy to find parts, resilient design and well thought out features and build quality.

new often feels like the opposite, small improvements, just to say its NEW, when actually it isnt.
for instance the Swift, how much has this 2025 swift improved over the original to SA swift?

not that much IMO,

Rory Sutherland said that buying a new car should be considered an act of philanthropy

Since I bought my first car (a 1980 Ford Escort 1.6 Sport) for R4000 in 1998, I've owned 7 cars. Only one of them was a new car, and also my biggest regret. A car, for me, is a mode of transport, not a status symbol. The most expensive car I've bought was R130k and that is my current ride. There are better things for me to spend my money on and invest in.

The new Swift has a far better safety rating than the old one.

All of my cars have been pre-owned. My next car will all but certainly be pre-owned too.

Bought my last new car more than 20years ago and that was when a car allowance was a good thing. Everything since then was pre-owned.
