Aah right makes sense on the rendering or encoding factor.

It should be as simple as X cpu usage = no restart really.

Funny that half the time my Win7 work machine won't shutdown because Skype doesn't agree with it, but Win10 will do it every time without questions.

They have changed the active hours thing to 18hrs. But that's still useless because sometimes I need the computer to switched on continuously and be setup with a program activated and connected to an online service to trigger an action 27hrs in advance, I don't want to be concerned some random restart will mess that up or always now have an extra worry will my pc restart, change active hours or faq knows what other hoop ms wants us to jump through.

Or say a pc is used for monitoring security cameras/dvr 24/7 etc and then a restart knocks it offline. Now I must use the 35days defer updates switch and have a calender alert for something that should be automated, it's 2017 for fsks and I still can't have nuanced control over how my own computer gets updates for its operating system.

You guys complaining should get Win8.1 with Classic Shell. There is no speed difference with Win10 as many review sites have shown. Also there are no real features which most people use. DX12, how many games run DX12?

Come at me haters!

If you insist. No Ryzen support :( MS is the suck.

I did the Creators Update and all the settings to not auto download updates and restart from GPE were saved.

If you look at the CIA tools that was leaked last week, you'll understand why MS would like to force Windows Updates on people.

There are massive security issues that they need to fix, but most people just ignore it. The system gets hacked, and MS gets the blame - not the people that never did updates.

Damned if you do, damned if you don't.

Did the creator update earlier today, got back to pc this evening only to catch the tail end of an auto update and restart, I had work open and was halfway through some stuff, now all lost.

I did some policy fiddling before and stopped all auto updates or restarts, I'd get notification of an update but I could choose when to download it and install/restart.

I don't want any auto anything, I work all times of the day, I don't want any rubbish restart at 3am or whatever the case may be. These things must faq off till I'm ready to let them do their thing.

Has anyone discovered a hack yet to disable this, those fskers at MS deserve to be drawn and quartered, seriously. I'm totally against violence but these dumb konts must pay, I'm tired of this retarded bs!

How do people with mission critical systems manage with this?

I've heard of some pretty serious situations where a pc will suddenly be stuck updating/restarting for half hour at the most inopportune time possible and there ain't schit you can do but watch in abject terror/dismay.
Nothing will get in the way of progress. Not even unticking meaningless check boxes.

MS don't need to worry about CIA tools, they never did. The entire forced updates story is behind of 'Telemetry' engine which was already used for hacking sha1 signing system. People complained about constant trashing their hard drives. It is not needed for ordinary telemetry. Your computer's processing power was used for centralized number crunching jobs. From time to time they need to replace distributed engine to accommodate needs of new MS business partners (it could be MOSAD or CIA).

It is why Windows 10 must be updated regularly and be online, otherwise it would 'panic' with UAC deny of service pops-up. I posted example of picture sometime ago about denial of service behaviour.

I wouldn't be surprised if there was a slightly creepy/nefarious reason why they force updates and restarts.

I've not experienced that with any other software or platform, they'll make sure you know there is an update, even to the point of being annoying but they'll never force you to update, they couldn't care less if you decide not to update just as long as they have done their legal obligation to notify you thereof.

Maybe these forced updates have something to do with botnets, either harnessing Ms pc's for use in botnets by Ms themselves or the US government, or alternatively to release an update to break up botnets if some MS coding flaw enabled 100s of millions of computers to be compromised by hackers.

"Keeping Microsoft users secure" is not a valid reason in my books, no other widely used operating system I know of has seen the need to implement forced updates.

Bleh. The update broke my Dual Monitor functionality. Flickered constantly. Culprit was Start10. Latest version cleared it up. Took me 45 minutes of digging thou

Thanks for the offer mate but considering your brain is the size of a pea there's about zero chance your hat will fit my normal sized head.

Says the one thinking MS is building a bot network for the US government.

The same Windows that's used in China.
The same Windows you can install Kaspersky on.

Maybe they are all in it together.

That pea sized brain isn't serving you well.

I'm only speculating and the one scenario is quite pertinent, a forced update that could break up a potential botnet, especially considering the cock-ups Ms makes.

If Microsoft didn't have a security arrangement/relationship with various branches of the US government I'd be very surprised. You'd have to be an idiot not to surmise that.
