Hi all,

I am needing to get Win XP Home to install on a newly formatted drive. Can someone recommend the best place (cheapest) to get it (full licence of course!).

Thanks.

It costs pretty much the same everywhere, just walk into any IT shop and pick up a copy....

OR install an illegal copy and when the anti-piracy thing pops up on your pc you can get a discounted version straight from M$ :D

Seriously Incredible Connection will be virtually the same price as any other shop so get it from there if you have one around you...

Not exactly Gavin...
What should a customer do if they find they unwittingly acquired a pirated copy of Windows XP? How can a customer acquire a legitimate license for Windows XP if they find that theirs is pirated?

The customer should go back to the point of purchase and demand a refund or a genuine copy of Windows XP. Customers can also contact Microsoft directly at http://www.microsoft.com/piracy/reporting/default.asp and report the piracy.

Customers can acquire a legitimate copy of Windows XP from a trusted retailer or PC manufacturer.

So will just get a copy at my closest retailer then. Thanks for the help.

But dude, Vista is on the horizon... just remember that.

From what I've seen, the prices mentioned here look like those for the DSP version - others are all close to or over R1000.

Incredible Corruption could only sell me the Upgrade...

Anyone in Durban know a cheaper place?

Crikey - don't ever buy anything other than DSP... what a ripoff

...and how do I buy DSP for my existing comp? I'm not buying a new comp or other hardware.

I'm not exactly shure about this, but I have heard someone the other day saying that Win xp sp2 MCE 2005 goes for the same price as xp home.

As I said, I'm not to shure about this.....

<hijack alert> And, why is just about every laptop for sale nowadays dispatched with xp home? I bought one, for work, but I can't log onto our domain, so I ended up spending R5500, and now I can only use it at home........

Said it before, register for an ICDL course at UNISA (even if you have no intention of completing the course) for around R500. Comes with XP Pro SP2 :)

BTW as far as student licences go... how long are they valid... what happens when you stop becoming a student..?

Don't think it matters, you "purchased" the copy as a student, you receive your own licence key, therefore the copy is legally yours (since it was purchased once off and doesn't require a monthly or yearly subscription).

It's sort of like being an employee in the motor industry and receiving a substantial discount on a new vehicle. If you leave your job then it doesn't mean that you have to pay them the discount back :D

The only downside is that you have to wait for a week or two for them to post your cd-key to you. But then again you're receiving the product for half the price :)

That would be great, but the next registration is in 2007 (I already mailed them about it).

Naa, incredible jackoff still hits the uninformed for R 2500 per XP Pro lic. Rather pay R 150 more, and buy PRO, normally retails R 700-900.
