Hey... I just want to ask whether window 7 will be able to recovery corrupted files..

Because one of my friends.. his hard drive corrupted... Everytime he tries to open it.. it gives him an error to say it's corrutped and must re-format...

But he doesn't want to as many of his programs and other important things are on there..

So I just want to know.. if there anything that he can do in window 7 to recover those lost files?

Or does he have to get another program..

Thanks

Never in the OS. You never try and recover from the drive that is corrupted or to the same corrupted drive. You always recover to a different drive.

Linux usually does the job or you can try something like Ontrack Easyrecovery proffessional but do not install it on the corrupted drive.

Best bet is to boot from another drive or connect the corrupted drive to another computer.

Ja, he has to take the drive out and hook it up as a secondary drive under a different operating system.

Find a friend's PC (clean from viruses) and plug it in there and run a program called GetDataBack for NTFS or FAT

or

Boot from a Linux Live CD and do recovery from there (like Ubuntu) or something like that.

Save the files that you recover to a different hard drive, then reformat and re-install the OS.

Yea, what Gary said - boot a Ubuntu Live CD and it's done in 30 seconds

The best solution is to create a backup on an external drive and keep it up to date. Saves many tears later.

Oh I see... I thought window 7 might have something new...

I took his hard drive today.. But on my computer, it shows that the hard drive is corrupted too... I guess I have to install a program that allows things to be recovered?

Ok.. let me just ask this in for future...

Is it the same for when this happens for an external hard drive too? Like use a recovery program... (there is nothing on window 7 that can recover data on a external?)

Pretty much, no built in utils for that function.

I sent you PM.
