Windows 10 minimal requirements have increased substantially (double for RAM). What was error code?

Sorry, are you saying the requirements shanged for the anniversary update? That can't be right... Besides, I have a 4th-gen i7 with 6GB RAM... Unfortunately, I can't remember the error code, and I'm not wasting another 3-odd gigs to find out. But I remember searching for the error and it said something about a faulty audio driver, but I don't think that's the case at all - driver is up do date, and audio works fine.

Thanks for sharing, I thought you ran into low memory.
As for upgrading, I adviced many times to not use Windows Update. This is very poorly written. It will delete downloaded file on any error. You should always download ISO file (or create it using Media Creation Tool) and perform upgrade by mounting ISO and running setup from the image.

Another thing finally fixed after >20 years: When switching users on a system, the desktop layouts and organisation are retained.

In the past it was always an aargggh moment when switching back to an already-logged on user because all the carefully arranged desktop items were reorganised. Especially on a multi-monitor setup.

Now the desktop organisation is retained between switched sessions.

Took them decades to fix that.

Okay, I think I'll try that then. Are you saying that Windows Update will delete the file or the Update/Upgrade Assistant? Or both?

Not sure, I think both. I saw the same behaviour on Windows Defender running on Windoes 7 They share the same libraries and system services. It happened to me also with MSE on XP. If you are out of luck, it will crash, then restart download after 10 minutes and crash again. Not much fun on 3GB downloads.

Does anyone know how big the anniversary update from 1511 to 1607 is?

Ive had it update at full 1Mbps (128KB/s) the whole night and its only on 55%? Ive done it before and it was done in the morning. What gives?

No I do not know how big it is, but the one I did, took a very long time to complete on ADSL 2 Mb/s

I read is about 3.5GB and it deducted roughly the same on my line. Took a while to update the laptop once done though

It is completely new installation kit. If you manage to capture ESD file, you can create ISO image for clean install. It will download, crash and download again as usual....

Better download ISO file and upgrade from the image. You can use wget or Free Download Manager. Generated link is valid for 24hours: https://www.microsoft.com/en-au/software-download/windows10ISO
