TL;DR.
Will Apple unlock the boot loader?
Would love to be able to run Linux native on the M1.

Linux used to run on my Macbook Air too, so hoping they just forgot to mention that....

Provided they pay licensing to Apple and do the required dev work then sure. Its unlikely they will do that though.
Its the same deal for Microsoft and Apple's typical passive aggressive stance of "sure we can do this if you approach us and pay for it to happen" They then direct all queries to Microsoft.

With Apple no matter how much you pay, you never own your iDevice. It's for your own good that you can't load Linux.
