The article is wrong and Microsoft recommendation either. DVD/USB creation can fail, downloaded file will be deleted and you will have to download again (3GB+). The only reliable method is to create ISO file and save it locally (and save a copy on external drive).

The other things failed to mention: When upgrade fails or you are not happy from Windows 10, you might be not be able to revert to your normal workspace. You should do full imaging of your hard drive to the external media first. Then upgrade by opening ISO file then double clicking on SETUP.EXE. Skip entering keys during installation. Activate the upgrade on Microsoft server and then restore your original OS from the image file. Now you can upgrade your computer later at any time when Microsoft release stable release, not pre-beta like it is now.

Note for users who do not qualify for Windows 10 Pro. With Home version you will be not able to disable automatic updates. In such situation use DAZ on a fresh installation of Widows 7 Pro/Ultimate and upgrade from here.

How will using DAZ get you an upgrade to Pro if you have a Home license, unless you have an OEM install and matching bios the upgrade eligibility will be determined by the serial that was previously activated on the computer?

I don't know which serial you are talking about. Do really Microsoft care?

With DAZ you can activate copy of Windows 7 Pro/Ultimate on any computer and then upgrade to Windows 10 Pro and activate it on Microsoft servers. They could stop it easily, but they didn't as they use piracy in order to gain momentum.

I don't support piracy, so I restricted my suggestion to the users who have legitimate Home-upgradable version of Windows and are going to suffer due to gestapo automatic updates policy in Windows 10 Home.

So I read that you can upgrade a 32 bit version of 7 to a 32 bit version of windows 10 and then do a clean install of a x64 version of windows 10 on the same key... Has anyone done that?

Yes, and if you do upgrade without entering any key, then do clean install of 64-bit version (skipping entering a key), it will activate automatically when Internet connection is alive.

I've done a clean install on three of my machines but I've been having endless issues with my primary machine.

It either goes to a black screen with me still able to move the cursor or it simply freezes.

I've done a few tweaks and my last solution has been to remove my secondary drive, if that doesn't work I'm going back to win7 for my primary machine, what frustrates me is that my other two machines work absolutely fine.

Apparently if you do an in place upgrade of 7 or 8 you can still get a activated copy of Windows 10?

I don't know, all PC's around Diepsloot had been upgraded already. There was a story in news section that Microsoft will allow to upgrade if you admit of being crippled or a pirate.

Sorry I meant to add, that's if you do it with an Win 10 Iso file via USB or dvd in place upgrade install, the online in place upgrade is no more.
