A few weeks ago I was fiddeling around with MSConfig after reading this:
Get Windows 7 to detect your new multi-core processor
I shouldn't have fiddeled actually as there was nothing wrong. Make a few changes and then undid them.
So tonight I'm busy with some video editing software and wonder why its taking so long on my uber i7 - I see the CPU is running at 100%......and its only showing 1 CPU under task manager

I check the settings under advanced and see its ticked to only use 1 CPU at boot!! I thought my PC was a bit sluggish for the past few weeks.
I've untoicked it and rebooted and now back to 8 CPU's!!!!
Things are much better now.
So if you've fiddeling with MSConfig before and your PC is slow I'd double check the setting
