I have a legal version of Windows 7.
In the bottom right corner of the desktop the following message has suddenly appeared:
"windows 7 build 7600 this copy of windows is not genuine"
how do I get rid of it?
What has caused it?

Right Click on "My Computer" and look under "Windows Edition"

Most probably there's another PC using your versions key or you got duped with a pirated copy. Your best bet is to contact Microsoft.

Some places put fake OS copies on their PCs. Where did you buy it.

Alternatively, just get a pirated copy...they don't show that.

Well, you see... build 7600 was supposed to be the RTM version... the final gold version. But then MS did a few little updates so the final version was no longer 7600. So if your copy says 7600 it is technically still a beta version/RC1 version and therefore not legal. So I dunno how you can say you "got it legal".

The message you are seeing is because the beta has expired and is no longer licensed.

Better check your info there. 7600.16385 is RTM & latest.

Windows 7 did an update last night, and the message has gone!

The copy I have is (I think) legit. bought it at Pinnacle Micro

So, what Tim is saying is that if he did not have access to the internet, his perfectly legal purchase of Win 7 would be useless.
Incredible.
