Hi Guys,

When does Windows 7 get officially released in this country?

How long till copies/serials filter down to us, the consumer?

Would you recommend 64 bit Win 7 if I am creating a new gaming machine?

regards

I think offical release is 22nd October, so it should be on the shelves very soon after that...

Copies/serials?? You want a pirate copy? Tsk, Tsk!!! But to answer the question, you can already get the cracks and serials online...

And since I'm running the 64bit RTM version, I'd recommend nothing less. Mind you, I was using the 32 bit version of Vista before, so it's not really a fair comparison. But still, 64 all the way!!!

64 Bit all the way, I'm just hoping MS doesn't get a patch for our 'patch'

No I meant copies as in the distribution cd's. Not looking to Pirate.

My next question is :

A) If I get Windows Vista 64 Bit Premium, does this allow me a free upgrade (via cd) to Windows 7 64 Bit Premium? (at no extra cost).

B) Will many applications fail to run under 64 bit???

C) Will the upgrade from Vista to 7 be a fresh reinstall? Or a disastrous upgrade of the existing Vista?

But yes, to answer the question - Microsoft has said that machines bought after a specific date (22June of this year I think) running certain versions of Vista will be able to upgrade for free. I can't remember the site where this was mentioned, but a quick search on google or these forums will point you in the right direction. But make sure that you read the requirements carefully - especially the part of buying the whole machine with the OS preinstalled, and keeping proof thereof...

Or just pop into your nearest Incredible Con for advice, since they're advertising this as well :p

Guys - I have cancelled my Vista (with upgrade to 7) purchase with my new pc.

Reason being: as I understand it, its an upgrade, not a fresh install. With my previous experience of windows upgrades I fear this process very much.

In the meantime will run Linux (cough !hacked XP! cough)

Wait bro....

Hello Moron noodle ,

As per my knowledge the original version will release on November to December.
And i want to say if you use 64 bit OS so may be its possible that some applications will not run.
And the next question for free new version so its not the problem you can get easily from net...

Uhhh, seriously... "orginal version" must mean "final release" or "release to public".
You stand a risk that some application won't run, regardless of whether it is 32 or 64 bit. It's a new OS.
And then I'm not sure what the last statement is meant to mean...:erm:

So if you buy a new machine with Vista now, the Win7 version you get is an upgrade version? So you can't do a fresh install of Win7?

Also, how much should it cost to get the upgrade? I was told it would cost R300 to deliver the Win 7 CDs, which seems a bit excessive.

I'm trying to decide whether to buy a new laptop now, or wait until Win 7 is out :) But I'm worried that the particular laptop I want (the Lenovo G530, NSH25ZA) won't be available with Win7.

Please define what you mean by this?

I don't really know myself :) Are all machines currently offered with Vista going to be offered with Win7 once Win7 comes out? Or will they stop selling certain models, or still offer them with Vista?

I think it depends on who's selling the laptop to you. You'd have to find out from the seller if the laptop comes with the option to buy the upgrade. Personally, I am still not getting the upgrade even though I just purchased a laptop that will allow for the upgrade. I will be purchasing an original Windows 7 Ultimate disk and using it on the 3 PCs I have at home.

Apparently you can use the license on up to 3 PCs... Am I correct in saying this?

I was under the impression that there would be a version for home users that allows for installation and use on three different systems, but I don't believe it applies to every version and if i remember correctly it applied to the windows 7 home version only.
