Are the new Windows 7 DSP versions hardware locked or are you able to reactivate them like the old windows OEM versions?

It will reactivate.

However if it's been done a few times too many then you get a window to phone MS to get it activated. This was the case with XP and I doubt MS will have changed that policy for Win7.

I've upgraded my motherboard several times since using XP as well as just random formats in between and it has always activated online without having to call them.
I really don't know which one to get now. Retail or DSP and it also seems like anything other than Win 7 Pro and above is also a waste of time in case you need things to run in XP mode.

If it does not just phone microsoft.

What i used to do with phone them and tell them lighting or upgrades was the problem and they always activated it.

Or just tell them the truth that their crappy OS fell over again and needed reinstalled.

Does not work though because your hardware would remain the same so you would not need to phone them.

You just activate, you have a problem when you change mobo. If reload windows on the exact same hardware it will activate online.

I installed Windows 7 Pro, then a week later I suspected a fault with my Intel mobo and replaced it with a gigabyte board.
Well as expected I ended up with the dreaded blue screen.
I switched off and switched on again and Windows recovered and all was well.
This was the message I got.
