Heck I still remember upgrading to 95 from Win 3.1 and how impressed I was with the stable TCP/IP stack compared to Trumpet Winsock crap I used to run in 3.1.

Later upgraded to Win98SE and stuck with that until last year when I switched to XP Home Edition.

For all it faults and anti-Microsoft hysteria from the Linux crowd it certainly did the job well.

Yup. I recall the countless hours spent trying to get it running on a 386 SX 25. I managed to get it installed, but it would crash after about 2.5 minutes of use. Was still great fun though. Damn I'm getting old :}

Cheers

Old, yes, good, no. Damn that OS sucked ass... oh wait, just about every MS OS since then has also sucked ass. I'm still trying to block all the horrible memories I have of that OS. The only good thing that Microsoft ever released was DOS, and they didn't even write it themselves.

Although i've had this argument countless times before. i'll respond to it once more. Say whatever you want, but if not for microsoft, the world wouldn't be as computerised as it is today. Win95 was a small revolution in userfriendlinesss, something that linux still has to learn. We all know the MS faults, but give credit where credit is due. I've been running linux and windows side by side for 10 years now and linux still doesn't offer the same level of usability, unless you REALLY know what you're doing. sure it's all cool and stuff, but given that most people like things being done for them, MS has a great product.

as a note, was looking at the new google desktop API this week, and in the release notes, google recommends MS visual studio as an IDE. If even google recommends MS products, surely it can't be all bad
