Windows Phone 8X review (MyBroadband)

HTC 8X indoor, close-up camera test -uhm, the semi bleached, stuffed toy was a real nice touch

It isn't bleached - that's the flash doing its overexposing magic.

(Though to be fair, most smartphone cameras I've tested do the same thing.)

a full 16h battery life?
even keeping in mind the big screen, performance, etc. etc....pity we cant get 2days+ battery life these days... clearly the battery tech has not kept up with the rest of the tech... or maybe the battery is too small, coz the design team takes preferance over the hardware team? :)
still 16h should last the full day, to work and play, and charge again all nite...

We have car chargers, usb charges and normal charges. Battery life really should not be a big issue until you stuck in the bush but i even have a solar charger just in case :D.

I am too lazy too search around now, but has MS actually ever said the 8X is the signature WP device ? As far as I understand MS has only called it a signature WP device along with the other candidates : Lumia 920, Samsung Ativ S.

Actually, HTC lost the plot after they made and sold the HTC Desire. Massive drop in sales and related revenues / profit have hurt them.

Quite frankly, I am disappointed with HTC's flagship phone.

I really expected more competition for the iPhone 5, GSIII and Lumia 920.

There is really nothing outstanding about their flagship phone. Very mundane.

What happened to the picture below?

Link.

My speculation is that they could not get their real flagship phone out by the WP8 release date and thus worked on their second best.

The 8X is more in competition with the Lumia 820 really. Size, features, price.

I will not be surprised if HTC comes out with an even more spec'ed WP8 device soon.

HTC's flagship phone is now the One X+.

Though not dealt with in depth here, the Windows Phone Marketplace still lacks many of the “top apps” Android and iOS users enjoy. Some of the apps that are on the platform already also aren’t yet as good as on other OSes.

This is so true, the Windows Phone platform is great, but the Apps don't make use of it. Starting to get the same impression with Windows 8.

Hopefully this changes as time goes by. Windows Phone 8 offers devs some really interesting stuff, and it would be great to see the apps I use often take advantage particularly of the "Live Apps" feature.

The Windows 8 home screen is effectively the notification tray, but if apps aren't live, that design choice falls flat.

Good observation. It just proves that HTC flagship devices are second rate on both platforms - Android and WP.

Yet the One X+ is better than the Galaxy S3. So don't get what you're saying. What makes a good Android phone then?

Enjoy lugging your 10 ton lumia 920 around.

Or enjoy your cheap fisher price plastic samsung.

I'll take my exquisitely crafted HTC. Long live HTC.
