Anyone know of any in the Gauteng area?

I have a client with a DP Win2008 server which is experiencing issues that need to be troubleshooted. Roughly 10 clients on the network and the server is used as a file/database server.

Clients are experiencing gross amounts of lag for no apparent reason...

you say "Lag" when/where/timeframe?

1.Is the firewall enabled? if yes check the log for any dropped traffic

2.Have you setup performance counters to check disk I/O and NIC's ?

3.Where are the database's located?

4.Have your reviewed basic system/application logs?

5.If you suspect network issue get a sniffer on there and see what is happening.

6.What Antivirus are you using?

I would look at the network. Is there a switch or port in place?

If you have not found anyone as of yet let us know and we can refer you to an outsourced engineer.

Check your event viewer logs. You'll most probably find the culprit/s there.

I also hope you are running Windows Server 2008 on decent specced hardware (4GB RAM +, RAID 1,5 with SCSI/SAS hard drives), otherwise you'll be in a world of pain.

The Event Viewer is def the first place to start. I recently had the the exact same issue and found an error in the event viewer pointing to a failing service
