Administering and maintaining server platforms both physical and virtual as directed as well as to provide support to other departments and customers and to perform incident, problem and capacity management.
Minimum technical requirements
• 5+ years’ work experience as a System Administrator on a medium to large sized network of servers
• Senior Certificate (Matric) & appropriate Microsoft certification
• Working knowledge of:
o Microsoft Systems Centre Suite (VMM,ORCH,DPM,SCOM)
o Powershell, batch (CMD) and VBscript
o Server 2008R2 (or higher) ; Active Directory; MS SQL; ASP.Net and IIS 6/7
o Virtualization (preferably Hyper-V)
o Back-up software (preferably DPM)
o Monitoring systems example PRTG / Cacti
• Proficient with server resource management (disk/memory), performance management
• Good TCP/IP Knowledge
• Valid driver’s license
Ideal technical requirements:
• Knowledge of Control Panels (examples: WSP and Helm)
• Own Transport would be ideal
• Working knowledge of Exchange 2007/2010 or higher
• Share Point 2010 upwards
• Good Hardware knowledge (example: Raid configurations)
Key Performance Areas (KPA’s)
• Assist in the design, implementation and configuration of systems, applications and service both in the virtual and physical environments
• Installation, configuration, management and maintenance of servers and platforms both physical and virtual
• Assisting in project delivery initiatives
• Performing system backups and recovery
• Incident response and problem management
• Monitoring and managing the performance and optimization of servers, systems and services, Including analysing system logs
• Assisting in maintaining environment integrity and security
• Capacity planning
• Documenting changes to the environment
• Handling escalations and support from customers and other departments
