Vinpro, which represents the wine industry, said it was already estimated that the SA wine industry — which employs about 300,000 people — would lose close to 18,000 jobs and that nearly 80 wineries and 350 wine grape producers would close their business in the next year.

Another 300,000 jobs is only 10% of the 3 million who have lost their jobs so not so bad.
There are going to be plenty of wine farms which ANC cadres can snap up at bargain prices after this is over.
All probably part of a bigger EWC plan to take the economy over from whites.

Tell that to the 300k people that will be sitting without jobs, and they will not only be white, many, if not most of those will be coloured people in the western cape. Ramaphosa is a corrupt, short sighted crook.

So that makes 150k white people on average then. :p

The ANC is doing this to destroy farmers and to destroy the WC. If they could ban farmers from growing food, they would do it too.

Just to clarify...there's approx 300k jobs in the industry, of which approx 18k will be lost.

The rest of the comments are of course 100% accurate.

Instead of a blanket ban on alcohol due to drunken idiots getting put in hospital (that's the official line from guavamint), why not whitelist sectors that can sell wine.

A specific example, allow sit-down restaurants (which are open, right?) to sell wine to their customers.

Along with proper enforcement of the law. Like the drunk driving laws. So we can scoop up the muppets when the leave the restaurants after have a few glasses of wine. I like the way you think.

Yeah, I missed that. That's still a crap load of people loosing their jobs, this will affect many people of all colours.

What nonsense. The rest of the alcohol industry (all across the value chain) are just as affected by this ban. What are the ANC trying to destroy there?

This ban would end overnight if all the big players started retrenchment procedures for all of their employees.

Not that we would be in this mess if the police did their job.
If you want the ANC to dig in, do something like that and watch them go full retard. The ban in of itself can sort of be justified but again this was the ANC punishing a collective because being specific would upset some of their voter base and offend the sensibilities of others (like tavern owners and such). They really ought to have spoken with the industry and sought a more workable solution which doesn't involve destruction of livelihoods. CR keeps talking about collective but is quite happy to ignore engaging with affected people when it suits the ANC.

Do you think the ANC are benevolent?
No.
But I also don't believe the nonsense that this ban is a ploy to destroy the WC (and capitalism). They may resent the current economic structures but they are smart enough to see that razing and rebuilding won't work.

No the ban can't be justified. The inability to enforce the law on those people who break it because they can't control themselves is on the Government. I pay them a large chunk of my salary for that. Drinking Alcohol isn't against the law and their current restriction on it is the government blaming its citizens for their own failure to uphold the law.

If you're a civilised human being and you're not insulted by this you simply are rolling over to authoritarianism. Authoritarians who holds you accountable for their inabilities.

this is exactly what the anc wants. the connected anc oligarchy will buy up the prime business in the name of uplifting the poor.

then continue blaming "someone else" for the misery.

i doubt it to be honest. ANC doesn't give a crap about jobs.

Only reason SAA v2 is going is because they score out of it...
