Spoof

There's a catch indeed - the official website for WinRAR is www.rarlabs.com.

I think www.win-rar.com is a spoof site, and anything you download from there is most likely suspect (ie laden with trojans/spyware).

There's no mention of this offer for a free download at rarlabs.com.

Download at your own peril...

EDIT: corrected url for rarlabs.com
EDIT2: Hmmm, on further googling, seems like there is more than 1 official site for WinRAR. I don't know anymore.

win-rar.com has been registered since 2001 in Germany, rarlab is registered in Russia - go figure

If you do a google search for win rar free peopleschoice you get over 100 similar posting to the first one. On dslreports.com forum several are saying they have downloaded it

I had to d/l 3.51 from tucows (my version was 3.3). but apart from a nag screen there is no difference, the "3.3 evaluation version" still worked 100% after the 40 day eval period.

Total Commander

I use Total Commander which has Packers built in.
ARJ, LHA, RAR, UC2, ACE, TAR, ZIP. :)
If needed one can configure more packers if needed. Never had need to.
Most files on the internet have mostly been ZIP, RAR or ACE.

Ditto on Total Commander. I registered it in about 1994...
