Wireless connection & wireless network

1. I have a Marconi ADSL Wi-Fi Wireless modem - from Telkom.
2. 1 x Home PC and 2 x laptop's.

 What I want to do:

Firstly I want to set the wireless modem so that each laptop and pc can connect to the internet individually. I also want the pc and one of the laptops on a wireless network - the second laptop must NOT share the network, only the wireless internet connection.

I'm not familiar with setting up networks. What's the difference between a bridged and rooted connection?

Can someone please run me through this 'step-by-step'. It would be much appreciated! :D

Mmm, by sharing the internet connection, you are pretty much putting the laptop on the network with the other two...

Why do you not want it to share the network?

The scenario is this: I have adsl 1024. I want each computer to connect through the wireless modem to the internet individually. Only sharing the modem.

Sometimes a third party uses my connection. And ive discovered that by doing this he automatically gains access to my network, and is able to see my share documents etc.

So I want my pc and laptop to be on the network, but the third-party laptop out of the network (loop).

Thats correct I still want to share between my own 2 pc's. But the others must be out of the loop and only have access to the wireless modem for the use of internet.

I don't think there's any way you can get that to work using only the WiFi router. You will need another router or PC (to act as router) I think.

EDIT: A smarter router may be able to set policies or something to prevent one user from accessing the rest of the network, but I doubt the Marconi is that good.

But I think the password-method will work - I'll give it a try and see how it works! Thanks for your trouble.

I have a Gigabyte BR404W wireless router, connecting to the internet via iBurst (also PPPoE).

I am able to set up static firewall rules on this little bugger, looking similar to this:

1. Firstly, I only allow specific MAC addresses on my network, and assign the local IP addresses to the different MAC addresses (to ensure my wife's VPN pass through will work)
2. I have one rule coming in that allows me to monitor the router from the office (static IP rule - WAN -> LAN allowed)
3. Depending on what this other person uses while surfing the net (www, mail, ftp etc etc) it is possible to set routing that his IP will only be allowed certain ports, and drop anything else that goes through. This *should* allow him/her to surf the net, but block them from accessing your other machines on ports that you don't allow.

Logically, the above makes sense to me, but I might be wrong, as I have never tried number 3 myself.

Hope it helps
