I bought a paid for a pair of wireless earphones from ebay. The item shipped via their global shipping program.
20 days after it was shipped I get an email saying the item is "restricted". Tracking shows it is in Erlanger, KY, USA, ebay's global shipping center.

This is the email I got.
We are writing to inform you that your recent purchase through the Global Shipping Program cannot be completed.

The item in question has been deemed restricted. This could be due to import/shipping restrictions or eligibility requirements within the Global Shipping Program. The item will not be shipped to you nor returned to your seller.

Don’t worry! Your full refund will be processed back to the original payment method within 72 hours. You may notice two separate refunds; a refund for the item and a refund for the shipping and import costs. No further action is needed.

I never knew that wireless earphones are restricted. I was under the impression that batteries are restricted if they are separate but the battery sits inside the earphone and cannot be removed.

Someone in the chain wanted the earphones more than you.

To only inform me 20 days after shipping that it is restricted. I think someone got sticky fingers and the Global shipping center.

Is wireless in-ear earphones restricted. I have previously bought wireless earphones from the US but not through ebay with no problem

I feel for you, that is indeed a terrible customer experience.

Ebay sent email saying it is restricted. Not talking about wish.

This is just a warning to other ebay customers who want to buy wireless earphones.

I am a specialist with eBay's Global Shipping Program (GSP). I understand that you are looking for more information on the (wireless earphones) that you purchased. I am happy to look into the situation and provide you with the information we have available.

Your seller has elected to send the order to you by using the Global Shipping Program. Regrettably, the order could not be forwarded to you by Pitney Bowes, our shipping partners, because it is restricted. Please understand that our shipping partners need to abide by all customs laws and shipping regulations with carriers. In addition to regulations and laws, we also reserve the right to restrict orders based on high defect rates/high value items at our discretion. Moreover, it is important to note that our shipping partners will always err on the side of caution. If there is any concern that an order may not be fit to ship, we will choose to restrict it at our shipping hub rather than risk it not being deliverable at all or, seized by customs. As a result of this unexpected issue, though, our shipping partners issued a full refund to you for both the item costs and international shipping/import charges. Your seller will keep the funds from the original transaction

I know this is inconvenient but, this restriction process is actually a protection for both you and the seller as we do not want any customs or shipping company questioning you on why this was shipped. Restrictions like this are also rare as we try to proactively block potentially ineligible items from being listed through the Global Shipping Program. I want to help as much as I can, so I would also suggest reaching out to your seller to determine if they might ship similar items to you direct in the future. You may also learn more about the restriction process and our Program terms and conditions here:

http://pages.ebay.com/shipping/globalshipping/buyer-tnc.html.

I know how important this is, and so I have provided all information that we have available. Regrettably we do not have any additional information that we can provide on this matter. I appreciate your understanding. For more specific details on restrictions, you will need to contact your local customs office.

Thank you so much for reaching out. I hope with this refund you are able to get what you need.

Samsung Galaxy Buds+.
In SA it costs around R3.2K+.
In US it is $98 on ebay new. With shipping and import fees that makes it R2.5K

You must look for such items on carbonite. Last saw a boxed pair for R2k!
