Wireless HSDPA vs Wireless ADSL

I was wondering how does wireless HSDPA compare against wireless ADSL and here are my points to consider :

1. You don't need a land line installed for wireless HSDPA.
2. When you sell your house, you can just unplug your wireless HSDPA router and plug it in at your new place.

So to me, it seems the better choice of the two.

Now I'm wondering how much will the Vodafone B970 HSDPA wireless router + 3GB data package cost me a month, compared to Telkom 4Mbps ADSL 3GB with wireless router.

Anyone that can help me?

On a per megabyte basis, the monthly costs are roughly equal.

This excludes installation and equipment etc.

a 3GB HSDPA will cost you R589 per month.
a Telkom Wimax (Wireless DSL - IF covered) will cost you 200-300 + ISP cost around 300-400 for unshaped.

As i say... roughly the same.
Always shed a carefull eye on those cheap DSL isp packages.
If its SAIX backbone, its unshaped.
If its IS backbone, its shaped.

Shaped = bad.

Thank you for all your help guys!!

Think I'll go for the Vodacom HSDPA 3G + Vodafone B970 combo. :)

*I live in the Mouille Point/Sea Point area and most ADSL lines get downgraded to 3Mbps here in any case, cos the Telkom lines are so old. Just did a speed test and I'm getting 3.9Mbps on my Vodacom modem.

Kingrob's already been instructed, on pain of death, to attend the next meeting.

Nay, as a newcomer to the Mother City, he should sponsor the next meet! :)

Ok, I've read a few posts and think the following would work best for me :

I can get the Vodafone B970 router free on a top up 400 package. I normally use 2GB data a month, so will just convert the airtime to data each month (R389).

Most important to me, I won't have the risk of running up a huge bill if I get a bit carried away on my PS3. :)

As I understand it, a top up package must be topped up again, before you can use it again. It doesn't just keep on going.

What do you guys think?

Back in the day BF2 used to use about 50mb an hour, any idea how much B4 would use?

I moved and am pondering on ADSL fixed line or the wifi way..

Weighing up line rental & ISP vs wifi :/

I'm in East London and thinking of getting an adsl line which my work will pay for, these guys supply our current Business adsl - http://www.border.co.za

I see they also supply wifi - what would be the hardware and costs to get wifi at my residential address provided its in an area where wifi reaches.

I know the guys personally, good guys.
You would have to pay for the CPE device that would be installed at home and then an account with them.
You have to be in line of sight to one of their towers though.
Personally I use wireless as a last resort, I always pick fixed broadband first as its generally more stable.

bf4 is about the same as bf2 was over wifi, sucky.
Anything latency sensitive is not good for FPS.
