Ok well since building my HTPC (home theatre PC) I can't understand how anyone would use anything else in their house for watching tv or listening to music, in fact the boss came around and now he keeps nagging me to put one together for him!

But anyway when my HTPC is being used as a regular pc I want to be able to sit on the couch and use the keyboard and mouse etc. It's prob about 3 or 4m away from the pc, and I'd prefer to have it run on RF rather than IR as I hate having to woryy about line of site. Can anyone recommend a decent, and hopefully fairly cheap keyboard and mouse to use...

Thanks,

Patrick

From personal experience any Logitech product is fairly good. The Bluetooth desktops are amazing, but also cost an arm and a leg. If you conat afford bluetooth, then go for RF based. Both Logitech and M$ desktops are very decent in this field... choose according to your budget.

Microsoft has a wireless keyboard that work over a distance of 30 feet according to them. I have a intelli mouse explorer wireless and it only works if it is closer than 1.7 meters to the receiver. I don't know what is available in terms of mice that works over a distance of 3 to 4 meters.

From personal experience, the logitch BT keyboard was completely responsive at a range of over 20m through 2 brick walls, and no line of sight. That was a very impressive demo for me.

go look at techies.co.za forums, in the media center edition section or the htpc section. loads of users there doing exactly what you want to do, so I am sure they can give you proper first hand experience on this matter
