Why wouldn't it be possible? AFAIK facilities (such as universities in the states) do it all the time.

So what special hardware would you require, because a wireless apn / router can't do more than 50m?

The 3000sqm depends on whether it is a squarish area (a lot easier) or a longer area. Using high amplitude antennae, it is not too hard to create wireless coverage of that magnitude. SMC have a commercial wireless AP/router with a huge range. Add a couple of these and you have your 3000sqm. The widest-range stock router that I have seen thusfar is 300sqm at 54Mbps. Really not bad. Add an indoor antenna to that and you can almost double it without using an access point.

Yeah, obviously repeaters can be used. There are a gazillion ways in which it can be achieved.

My previous attempt a couple of months ago to use an APN as a repeater or in WDS mode had failed. I might give it a shot again :).

WDS is very picky when it comes to devices. Sometimes different manufacturers AP's work together in WDS and other times it dont. Best way to do WDS is to get AP's of the same manufacturer, and preferably of the same model aswell. Just a note of warning, for every WDS AP linked the network speed gets halved.

possible to do. like with everything, you can do it the cheap and nasty way and and it will come back and fire your ass or you can do it properly that will cost lots of money.
all depends on what they using the WLAN for. only data?

remember you can have hi gain antenna's on your APs but the client still has to send data back and if they are to far away you get a bad connection (even though your signal strengh is ok)
