I see a lot of questions from Newbies regarding basic wireless networking. I found an excellent eBook entitled "Wireless Networking in the Developing World", it is billed as a "A practical guide to planning and building low-cost
telecommunications infrastructure" and provides a great reference for people who want to find out more about wireless networking.

The book is published under the "Creative Commons Attribution-ShareAlike
2.5 license" and can be freely distributed as long as you stay within the CCA license restrictions
