Woman, 48, who threw acid over her ex-lover leaving him so scarred he went to a suicide clinic is acquitted of murder but found guilty of throwing a corrosive substance with intent ....

A woman who was accused of murdering her ex-boyfriend by throwing acid on him has been acquitted of his murder today in a landmark trial.

However, Berlinah Wallace, 48, was found guilty of throwing a corrosive substance with intent at Mark van Dongen, 29, at Bristol Crown.

The fashion student previously claimed it was just 'bad luck' that she threw acid over her former partner after he began dating another woman.

Wallace insisted she believed she was throwing a glass of water over the engineer as he lay in bed at her flat in Westbury Park in September 2015.

Mr van Dongen was left with such catastrophic injuries that he was granted euthanasia and died in Belgium last January.

Dutch-born Mr van Dongen was left paralysed and only able to move his tongue, had to have his left leg amputated, and suffered 25 per cent burns.

He lost his left eye and most of the sight in his right eye.

The engineer died on January 3, 2017 after the application was approved by three consultants who decided he met the criteria of 'unbearable physical and psychological suffering'.

The couple had been together for five years but split up the month before the attack and although Mark was still supporting Wallace financially, he began seeing another woman.

In the hours before they had attempted to rekindle their romance, but at 3am on September 23 2015, Wallace poured the acid over him as he lay in bed, shouting: 'If I can't have you, no-one else will.'

Yeah, I was confused how she could've been charged with murder. Should've tried her with attempted murder as well.

In states like Texas in the US she could even get the needle despite the victim surviving as they have capital punishments where the crime has such an impact on the vic.

What amazes me how/why they didn't.
Pouring a highly corrosive substance over someones face(!!!) is tantamount to intent to cause such grievous bodily harm it would amount to murder in any sane person's mind.

But i'm not surprised, humanity has lost the plot. Completely.

Indeed, but this is the UK and its brigade of bloody PC judges, politicians and the like.

Horrific , hope she goes away for a long time.

Computer experts discovered Wallace had deleted 82 websites from her computer's browsing history from the months before the attack.

More than half of these - including a site showing post-mortem images of a victim - featured acid.
So she knew that death could have resulted, would have thought an attempted murder decisions would be appropriate at least.
