It is tricky, because you do need to respect other people's religions. But I think it was the expletive that she uttered that was the deciding factor in arresting her, in this case :)

Once again someone pays the price for their imaginary beliefs. Jail time coz you believe in a fantasy.

Well how far do you extend the freedom of religion thing - if you emigrate to anther country you should be free to practice all aspects of your religion that do not conflict with the laws of that country - they have on occasion insisted that women's driving license photos be taken while fully veiled.

Well you cannot expect people to just do away with their beliefs because they move to another country, your belief is not measured on the country you live in.

Valentine violated a court policy that prohibits people from wearing any headgear in court, police said.

Is that a national law or just particular to that court?

Good grief this is ridiculous. We as humans have much bigger things to worry about. Yet we throw people in jail for stuff like this.

Wow!

No. We need to respect people's beliefs. Religion is a man made thing, and so are the symbolic and customs that go with it. When you move to another country, the onus is on you to make sure that your religion isn't going leave you at odds with the law.

If we have to respect people's religion (and everything that goes with it) we also have to respect suicide bombers who target civilians to make their point - is that fair?

Koffie where in any religion does it state that suicide bombers are fine?

I think your example is really poor man, suicide bomber compared with a lady not wanting to remove her head-gear, yes good one dude.

The rules are the rules and are to be obeyed. If you dont like them then go back to where you came from. The US is not a Muslim state unlike the UK ;)

So if I make up some religion that forces me to wear skimasks all day long except if I eat or sleep you be happy to have me working with clients? Would your company accept my ID document without a prolbem if I was buying some large item?

Or maybe it requires me to wear a hat with bells on all the time? No problem, heh? I'll just come stand close to you everyday and shake my head a bit for a hour each day... hehehe

Oh come on. Obviously there's a difference between actual, recognized religions and something that you've made up. Now if you truly believed you had a divine epiphany and that this is what you are required to do... well, you'd be more likely treated in a mental hospital, but other than that it would have to be dealt with on a case by case basis, and you'd have to be convincing that it is something you truly believe and aren't just trying to cause trouble.

No, it's multicultural.

This is the helmet thing in banks.... if they take it a step further women covering their faces would be banned from entering banks.

So i can put on one of those cover all suits and bomb them all and nobody would be able to identify me.....
