Depends on the headscarf in question, if its like a veil, ie covers whole face, then i see the problem but if it was just a normal scarf the judge is being an a$$, and maybe the expletive thing just agitated him more.

I wonder what our courts do/allow. Thankfully this is SA, most of the people tolerate cultural differences and try accommodating where possible.

I called you on two specific comments, which I quoted. I agree completely with you that religion should and belief should not override the law. But calling the UK a Muslim state and a "would be Islamic country" is pretty inappropriate and ignorant - defamatory at best.
When you have Muslim leaders calling for Islamic law to take over then yes it is a problem dont you think? I was trying to say that it is becoming more and more like an Islamic state as the laws seem to be moving very fast towards pleasing Islam at the expense of everyone else there.

They may be calling for it - doesn't mean it's likely to result in anything. I haven't seen any laws "moving very fast towards pleasing Islam" either - care to provide some links to back that up?

The scriptures say " Render unto Caesar the things which are Caesar’s, and unto God the things that are God’s ".

The meaning like all biblical verses is open to interpretation but I have always read it as ' Obey the laws of the land and obey the laws of God '.

Actually, I believe that was less metaphorical. They were asking if they had to pay tax, and that was the reply... ;)

However, in this case the woman was not barred from wearing a scarf - she was barred from wearing a scarf in court.

True, although the reason she was arrested was more to do with swearing because she wasn't allowed in wearing a scarf, than the wearing of the scarf itself.

No. We need to respect people's beliefs. Religion is a man made thing, and so are the symbolic and customs that go with it. When you move to another country, the onus is on you to make sure that your religion isn't going leave you at odds with the law.

If we have to respect people's religion (and everything that goes with it) we also have to respect suicide bombers who target civilians to make their point - is that fair?

Beliefs are the same thing as religion. Religion, philosophy, ideology, same thing. Everything is man-made, even belief is man-made as is tolerance.
LOL ban 'em all to justify your little atheist crusade, I say.

As JC said - " This is a historic moment " ! ( John Cleese, not the other one..)

I agree completely with Marine1 !!

I have no time whatsoever for those who emigrate to, for example, the UK and then bitch about their laws.

They have the option of buggering off back to where they came from.

Imagine someone from SA moving to London and slaughtering a cow on their balcony in Peckham.

So if they want to be able to do the black bag thing where it is not permitted then the Brits should be able to go to their country and wear mini skirts and drink beer on the patio.

Which is the crux of the matter. Paying tax is giving tribute to the civil authorities and means just that, respect for civil (human) authority.
Giving tribute to God was done by other means, but doing the one did not
exclude you from doing the other.

People also confuse religion in the old Testament and in the New Testament too. The Jews in the Old Testament had a Government which was based on Theology. It was a Theocracy - an Ecclesiastic government, where religious transgressions as well as civil could be punished. The NT brought about the fullfilment of the OT (Messiah) and we see seperation of Church and State.

Much of the New Testament is metaphorical. Jesus' Parables are metaphorical
for example. LOL.

Strange how you always use the troll-card then you are in a conner:p

You have offended many people in this thread, grow some balls and apologise to them.

It's a well known fact that marine1 hates Muslims, loves the US, considers Bush his idol and will fight for the Jews in a war against the Muslims.

How anyone still takes you seriously on this forum, marine1, is a miracle.

Well, you can start with the Muslims in the UK attempting to build the Europe's biggest mosque in London - not sure if it was approved/ still waiting approval but there has been massive opposition to this.

At least someone here sees the light.

Hate Muslims? No I dont.
Loves the US ? yes I do
Bush my idol? No not anymore. People are allowed to change their opinion.
Will fight for Jews against Islam? Damn right and proud of it.
Take me seriously? Do you honestly think I am the only one here who feels this way? I am just vocal about it and wont hide the way I feel about the world in which we live.

No that they will rather leave out ;)

At least Marine1 is consistent - even if it is consistently pro US and anti-Islam.

If the truth be told he is just a fan of law and order and western values.

Connie Mulder was, and his son is on the opposite end of the political scale to where I am but I have always respected them because they are honest, have no agendas, and always say exactly what they believe and mean.

Thanks for the heads up!

I did not really think we still have people like him in South Africa. It is really sad.
