It allows expatriates to interact with high-profile South African employers about job opportunities back home and also gives them advice about buying property, setting up bank accounts, starting up a business and immigrating to South Africa.
Why work your ass off there, to come back here to start a company in a country which threw you out in the first place? There is no way in hell I will open a company here only to be forced in to a BEE contract.
I will not spend 49% of my time in the UK working on behalf of a BEE candidate in RSA too lazy to accomplish what I do himself. Why do I say lazy (incompetent) BEE candidate? The opportunity would be already utilised by a hard-working individual. 49% my ass, if a person can not do something on his own 49% is unreasonable.

I decided if it were to make money to invest in RSA, I won't for the same reasons I want to leave.

Thrown out? . . . 49%? . . . forced into contracts?

effectively thrown out.
forced as in = "you won't really make it if you don't, screwed if you do, screwed if you don't"

I haven't been thrown out. . . have you been thrown out?

Truth be told they initially denied my permanent residency application and tried to throw me out but even then they failed. :)

I know plenty of people who were coining it - played by the rules and got their BEE status and proceeded to make even more money so I guess a lot depends on your outlook. To them it was an end to a means and it has served them well.

In my option, I don't have a real choice to stay.

Did not know you weren't South-African?

Isuacner, What exactly do you do at the moment? work-wise?

Because you have no idea what BEE is and thus no idea how to run a company. Educate yourself on BEE and BBBEE.

I dont recall ANY one being thrown out of South Africa. Please give me an example.

My company is not BEE but BBBEE and I have and have always been given massive government and private contracts in which my 'black parterners'
have work as hard as i have.

You know Absolutely nothing about BEE and bussinuess form the way you are talking.

Good for them! There will be a large number of Saffers who, after doing their stint of bar, technician and general labor which the local workforce refuse to do either cos a) they're too lazy or b) they're on the doll (or both). These Saffers will come back to enjoy a better life of not having to share beds with members of the same sex in hostel type environments, they'll enjoy the great weather and enjoy the treasures of home they paid through their noses for in specialty stores. There will ofcourse be some who come back and suffer from our terrible crime problem and then there are those who excel overseas and take up permanent citizenship but this sort of ex-pat behavior isn't a phenomenon unique to South Africa.

Bare in mind, I never did the London binge. I know a few people who have lost their minds overseas and I know alot of people who have come back better for it, these people have started businesses locally based on the experience and knowledge they gained from being in a 'have to work' environment.

lsuacner, I'm sorry that you as such a young persons hold such a grudge to this country. If I didn't know your age, I'd swear you were a construction contractor who missed the cheap labour and who was bitter that he didn't get anymore jobs because 'he wouldn't let any darkies' into management.

This entire concept is so messed up. Setting up an office in London(!) to recover half a dozen Saffers. Then they teach them to open bank accounts (They don't have those in London) and show them how to buy a house in a country with +- the world's highest crime rate. Somehow I don't think they got the brightest 7 of the bunch.

Been on a construction site lately? Full of Mozambique okes and when the foreman whistles they all hide for inspection. Cheap labour is still going strong.

if SA wants the expats to come back take away AA, how the heck can SA expect people to come back if their is AA. Its a joke, and start sorting out the crime problem, and while you at it start sorting out the corruption within government. Then we can look at it.

But for petes sake, don't beat around the bush and make SA sound like this little utopia to try and lure people back. Tackle the real problems, instead of painting a rosy picture.

This homecomingrevolution is a bunch of nonsense, they like a bunch of bad salesmen, trying to sell old beaten up ford cortinas to potential BMW customers, telling them why they should rather buy the cortina. Unfortuanitly as with everything else, some people will believe them and return to SA, only to discover the terrible truth. I wonder how much blood the homecomingrevolution must have on its hands, how many people that have returned because of them? how many have since been involved in really serious crimes?

And the above just proves how seriously SA wants us back, once you have transfered your knowledge, it will be time for you to hurry up, pack your stuff and f### off out again..

Security Minister Charles Nqakula said that those that complained about crime should emigrate.

My company is not BEE but BBBEE
It's the new pink

Emigration of skills does have some benefits for South Africa. In particular, people in the country can gain from the knowledge generated by the skilled diaspora, since links between professionals here and overseas often remain after people leave.

Peope who end up in such situations have only their own bad choises to blame. If you are skilled - i.e. not just have matric but have some tertiary qualifications and/or have some sort of professional work experience - you have to be lazy or stupid if you can't find a decent job with a good wage in London. And as far as room/bed share go, people stupidly insist on living in or near the city center when they cannot afford it. Get a flat in Zone 6 or even further out - it takes you 40 min by train to get to central, you save a fortune, sleep in your own bed in your own room, and enjoy a much better quality of life.

And even if you don't want to live that far out, you just have to keep looking - you'll find something affordable close by that isn't a dump.

...enjoy the treasures of home they paid through their noses for in specialty stores.

Yeah, the same people who in S.A. wouln't buy at Stuttafords or Woolworths because it's "so expensive" wants to be seen on the streets of London clutching their Harrods shopping bags.

I'm always amazed when I see something like this. A while ago friends from S.A. came over here for a bit of tourism and stayed with other friends of them. I went over there to visit - first time in the area - and was struck by what a run-down part of London they decided to live in. After some wine flowed I we got into the inevitable conversation about clost. Turns out they pay almost as much as I do for rent. BUT, they live a good 40 minutes further out, their place is smaller, their suburb is crap. I have a fairly big place, I have a garden, I live in one of the nicer areas, and I'm way closer. So what is my conclusion? They either went for a not-so-great area thinking it was going to be cheaper, or they just didn't put much effort into finding a good but affordable place.

Given this, it's no wonder people come over here for a year, then go back to S.A. and complain about how crap it is to live in London.

Pointless waste of money.

Like others have said, fix the conditions here and you want need to fund a campaign to get people to return.

Obviously SA is a country for ANC supporters only. That's what the minister meant.
So much for democracy and freedom. Anyway whites should not expect anything
from the current government other than 2nd class of citizentry.
It's unfair folks, but learn to live with it. You are second class (only in SA of course).
It's funny because if you speak to say an Arab company - they will prefer
a white employee over any other, even Arab. Oh well, move to
the Middle East or even to China because you'll be welcome there and the people
are friendlier - you won't get raped and murdered if you have a car accident.

This is not to say that I think whites are better, but it is to say that skilled people
with some sort of aura of capability that 'caucasian race' implies (even if
its an incorrect perception) in some
regions have a big advantage in the Middle and Far East. It's a pity the local
government doesn't want to keep the brains here because they are
wanted elsewhere.

Smug

The Minister looks very smug.
From my short time on this earth and worldly experience I have noticed that people who are smug usually end up having to wipe that smugness off their face somewhere along the line.
The long arm of crime will stretch out and touch said Minister and then he won't he so smug any more.

Actually the Minister's arrogance is quite something to behold. Goes to show you how much you can get away with in Politics nowadays and the level of ineptness that dwells in that sphere. He even got a couple of claps from equally smug audience.
Quite sad really.
History is doomed to repeat itself time and time again.

We should all collectively ask SARS for a discount on our Taxes, for the drop in standard of Government Service and Delivery.
Would you accept Mr Ackerman saying in Public that if you don't like his staff or service at Pick n Pay then you should go shop elsewhere. No you wouldn't.
The Minister has essentially told us that if you don't like the way Government runs the country we should go shop elsewhere by packing our bags and moving.
Well unless Mr Charles owns the country which he does not, he has no right to make these statements. He is merely a paid employee of a state organ paid to administer the country and should act the part and grow up a little. People are dying from his and other people in Government's incompetence.
I will not be voting for Charles in the next election. -1 for you.

Ryk robbed - again

Ryk Neethlings quote on the Homecoming Revolution Website, "I made the decision after the 2004 Olympic games to come back to South Africa and have loved it. The only regret is not returning earlier."

:(:confused::mad:

Sanri van Wyk, Beeld

Johannesburg - Crime has come knocking - literally - at swimming ace Ryk Neethling's door.

But a spur-of-the-moment decision to travel to Bloemfontein to watch the Currie Cup semi-final, probably saved him from coming face-to-face with the burglars at his home in Lynnwood, Pretoria.

Police spokesperson Lucas Sithole said the burglars had kicked down a door to gain access to the house at about 13:00 on Sunday.

Beeld was told that Neethling hadn't had any plans to go to Bloemfontein for the match between the Bulls and the Cheetahs.

But on Saturday morning, he and his housemate, Neil Cloete, had decided on the spur of the moment to drive there after all.

A person close to the family said it was a "blessing" that they were not there when the burglars struck, because their lives could have been in danger.

Apparently a TV set, a DVD player and a laptop were taken.

Sithole said the police were still waiting for Neethling to confirm what had been stolen.

"It's not clear how many people were involved," Sithole said.

No-one had been arrested yet, he added.

It's the third time Neethling has been robbed. In June last year he was "relieved" of 40 medals - two of which were later replaced.
