Pakistani cricket Coach Bob Woolmer died of "manual strangulation," Jamaican police commissioner Lucius Thomas said Thursday. "We are now treating this as a case of murder," he said. Woolmer was found dead in his hotel room the day after his team sensationally lost to underdogs Ireland in the Cricket World Cup.

im sure it has to do with the bookies imagine the amount of money they lost

It is sad to hear about this - heard on the radio as I was driving in. If it indeed had to do with the bookies, another cricket great will be tarnished in the record books. I hold no grudge against the man, if indeed it is so. As with Hansie Cronje - they were good natured men. In Hansie's case, giving in to a little human error which we all have.

Bob(and anyone else) did not deserve to go out in such a fashion. :(

All the best his family, supporters and mounrners.

I don't believe anyone can blame the coach or individual team members for the loss to Ireland- it was a team "effort". something seems sinister here. were there any signs of forced entry into his room? it's really sad.
he was the coach during the Hansie scandal so one never knows...

THere was no sign of forced entry. but they have now fingerprinted the entire Pakastani team.

Hopefully surveillance tapes haven't gone missing.

I feel the SA team should pull out of the WC. To me this murder warrants the strongest possible action. To me it would be insensitive to continue. The game of Cricket seems to be in far more trouble than I thought.

Bob Woolmer's passing is definitely a loss to the cricket world. To think he was murdered is shocking (see News24). When I read that they were appealing for his murderers to hand themselves in, and witnesses to step forward, it makes me somewhat concerned. I'm wondering whether his killers will be brought to book...

If a rank outsider wins, isn't this too the bookies advantage?

maybe it wasn't a bookie but people who put a whole lot of money on Pak to win that game for small gains. They must've lost a lot and seek for someone to blame.

what's interesting is that the Pak official Pervez Mir went on saying the next day after woolmer's death that he complained on breathing problems etc. Maybe trying to deflect the issue here?

I THINK THAT PAKI GAME WAS THROWN TO BE HONEST

come on think about it, they are a good side and to bowled out for 130 is sickening i think

India might also not make the Super8's, who they gonna kill for that!
The match fixing is getting out of hand!

Of course Pakistan threw the Ireland game, and of course Woolmer's murder was related - either because he was complicit, or because he was going to blow the whistle. The entire game of cricket is bent and there has never been any impetus behind straightening it out

Like i said i think the Pakistanis threw the game and he found out. Anyone know what the odds were on that game? Sure some Pakistani players are walking away with large amounts of cash. They knew they were not good enough to win the tournament, so they might aswell make the most of it.

highly doubt it, if it got out they would be crucified back home.

you see how angry the Jamaicans are! cos they have a murder in there town..
Eish... if only they knew how many murders occur in SA...
I went to a cricket clinic hosted by Bob himself... he's a good hearted man...

If its true the Paki team must be feeling extra K@K for losing the tournament and their coach!
