Woosh modem - anybody interested?

Hi ppl

I don't know whether this would constitute an advert - if so I'll get RPM to move it, and my apologies to all.

Anyhow, I've managed to procure a used Woosh modem from NZ for myself for a price far below the cost of MyWireless modems here [:)]. I'm using mates over in NZ to purchase the modem for me, and they will then airmail the modem over.
For those that don't know, Woosh is the NZ equivalent of Sentech and they use exactly the same IPWireless modems. All that may be required is a firmware flash to get them working here.

I have a chance to get one more used Woosh modem (1 month use) for anyone who is interested. Basically I can get one other person a used Woosh modem (with all the costs built-in) for around R1750-2000 not including shipping within SA. However I have to know whether to get the extra modem by this Tuesday night latest because my window of opportunity closes on Wednesday morning.
If anyone is interested, mail me through the forum.

Watch out with the post office

I have had 3 international packaged dissapear.

All had tracking numbers, all dissapeared after being scanned in Johannesburg.
One arrived as a empty box, and the post office still wanted customs duty for what was declared by
the shipper for being in the box

So just be carefull

Hello,

I would love to email you through the forum - but your email address is absent. Please contact me, donovan@cairney.co.za.

Why are they selling their modems?

One Acronym : IMEI

While it is entirely possibly that your Woosh modem will work AT THE MOMENT. It's also quite possible that Sentech will simply turn off modems (blacklist) that have not been purchased through the proper channels.

Remember that this technology is similar to cellular in that EACH device attached has a unique code...

Just a thought

The IMEI and postal service are definitely both risks, and as such this offer of mine is not for the faint of heart...mine's in pretty good health so I think I can take it [;)].
I'm hoping to hook up with someone who *might* be coming over here from NZ, so that will save the postal problems if it works out. As to why these are so cheap - well the two modems in question belonged to two former Woosh subscribers. One of them is leaving the country, and the other has decided to go for Jetstream ADSL instead (in NZ, the local Telkom has been forced into offering better DSL rates to compete with Woosh). In both cases the ppl got their modems subsidised, so they're willing to flog their modems for cheap [:)].
About the lack of email - sorry my fault, its now available.

Thanks for the offer, but a little late, I purchased my modem last week!!
In regards to blacklisting, I spoke to a guy called Casper Cassidy at Sentech last month, and he informed me that the modems sold by sentech are not network locked, and that they only check IMEI numbers and keep a record, to lock out IMEI numbers of modems reported stolen, maybe it was Bulls..t, but thats what he said

Back in April Sentech confirmed that they were in talks
to provide International roaming for MW users, so it is
VERY unlikely that they will bar ANY non Sentech IMEI customers.

I was wondering if anybody actually tried this since the topic was first started 2 months ago? Will a Woosh modem work on MyClueless or not?

The modems are currently sitting in customs...the courier assures me they will be released in the next few days...after that I will test the modems on the Sentech network - if they work, then I'll put them up for sale [;)]

After a LONG struggle to get the modems sorted out, I finally have in my possession 2 brand new IPWireless modems for use on the Sentech network. I have personally tested each of them and they function perfectly.
I will probably get another forum member to validate the functional status of the modems as an extra guarantee.

I'm looking at a selling price of R2250 each. They are still in their original packaging, and I'll include a CD containing the Sentech software for installation purposes.

Disclaimer:
I'm offering the modem + USB cable + power connection + stand only, no contract is included.
To get signed up as a subscriber, call Sentech.
If your modem gives trouble, call Fastcomm/NoWire - I am not responsible for any faults or problems once the modems are in your possession.
No chancers.
First come first serve.

Mail me on maudib@mailbox.co.za for full details.
