Not surprising that the mobile networks have been able to avoid making meaningful data price reductions if government is only paying 25% of the market price for uncapped packages.

No FUP???
Government employees only?
5GB FUP, hard-cap. Who tells you that they use their unlimited data for Netflix, etc?

And how many SIMs per govt employee?
Because if they are abusing the data, then that is a problem. Making up excuses during work, "The system is offline", but is watching Skeemsaam on the phone.
Poor citizens which is not a govt employee, must pay ludicrous prices for data, voice, etc. Not fair.

So government gets it at the normal price the rest of the world pays while we have to overpay 200%. No wonder they won't do anything to reduce prices.

In the event that the local manufacturing company cannot fulfil a purchase order, government entities will be able to choose from imported smartphones.
Expect lots of abuse of the system to get a proper phone from foreign companies.

"We faxed the purchase order to Samsung, did Samsung not forward it to Mara? Eish, oh well Mara failed to fulfil, we will now order from Samsung instead"

This is just click bait to be honest it's not like every employee is gonna get this, look the government just get the contract for certain people or offices. e.g a manager or director or a General, Brigadier (only higher positions) some offices like SCM may get a smartphone kept and used by the supervisor.

No Tom and Jerry can run to Vodacom and get this contract

Doesn't matter the government still benefits where citizens suffer. They don't lose jobs and they continue as if the pandemic isn't effecting them.

Losing a job is bad, but someone else losing their job isn't going to make your life any better. But go and look for a government job if you are so jealous.

Many people also seem to forget that government has been ripped off since the inception of these cell contracts. 1.8GB per month data contracts currently cost R300 per month. I'll actually believe these new contracts when I see it. My wife is still on the 1.8GB data contracts.
