World’s largest solar tech company partners with Durban-based solar PV panel maker

LONGi Solar, said to be the world’s largest solar photovoltaic (PV) technology company, is partnering with Durban-based solar PV panel manufacturer, ARTsolar.

This partnership is aimed at meeting the requirements of the South African Department of Mineral Resources and Energy (DMRE) Risk Mitigation IPP Procurement (RMIPPP) programme, and beyond.

LONGi, a Tier 1 solar PV manufacturer listed on the Shanghai stock exchange, supplies more than 30GW of high-efficiency solar wafers and PV panels worldwide annually, which comprises about a quarter of global market demand.

Can someone in the know how, translate or comment on this?
Cheaper Solar panels for consumers?
Better after service support?
Can we consumers, buy direct?

I would guess that upfront it means little to no change for the consumer as its more aimed at the RMIPPP stuff, but it might eventually end up with cheaper panels if the manufacturing capacity is ramped up and there is excess capacity.

ARTSolar have been manufacturing in Pinetown for a while now if memory serves.
Probably find they cant keep up with the demand so are outsourcing.
I didnt read the article so its just assumptions.
