Dude, What South Africa needs most of all are strong social programs which are well funded by the government, a well trained, well paid and respected police force, equal free public schooling for all, a clean sweep of corrupt government and the hiring of people in the workforce on the basis of ability and nothing else.
Aye. Why are we waiting? It's imminent.

Canada is not perfect, but it is something that SA can aspire to.

South Africa deserves the above. Will it get it?

I hate to break my 1000 count on you but I am going home now to my comfortable house and swimming pool in this great country..... so I have no time to post something else :D

I feel sorry for you because you seem to be very frustrated with your situation in South Africa

You seem to be a terrible judge of character. I love it here. If I didn't I would leave I am lucky in that I have that option. I have lived in many countries in the world and personally I prefer SA to any of them.

2010 World Cup, a seat on the security council and being a power house in Africa with rich foreign investors, means nothing if the man on the street is seeing no benefit from all of this.

I see the benefit on the 25th of every month, just to again correct you whilst we have rich foreign investors we also have very rich South Africans. Ever heard of the Oppenheimers or Tokyo Sexwale? I can name numerous others but what is the point.

Whilst women and children and babies are being raped, AIDS rages. homes are barricaded and still not safe, the roads are treacherous and law and order is breaking down on a daily basis, you are sliding down a very slippery slope.

Maybe you should come back for a visit some time? I am not saying there is no crime and awful things don't happen here but it's not as bad as you are making it out to be.

Drive through Hillbrow and see how things can disintergrate very quickly, and see how close this is happening to the more affluent suburbs.

As you yourself admitted you get your info from a blog. You haven't driven down a street in SA for a long time. I worked in the JHB CBD for 5 years until recently changing jobs. I know more about it than you or some blog.

Free, free, free, free... Maybe you need to get a job and realise if you want real things you should be working for them. BEE is another topic that can be discussed but in another thread I think

But until then ciao.... Time to go for an Amstel... Only SA can import a beer and then improve it :D

PS: Isn't SAB the second biggest brewery in the world now? Do Canadians even drink beer?

Enjoy. Out of a country of 45 million it must be nice to have your own swimming pool that you can boast about. Did you drive home in your BMW?

You may love it there, but you let your slip show. It must be nice to have an "out-clause" when you need it. I am sure that 40 million others don't. Shame on you taking advantage. They can't become boat people because the Atlantic is to far for them to sail in rickety boats to reach the hallowed shores of America.

You see the benefit but do you really think that 40 millions others do?

I have a job. I work in a relatively low level sales position in advertising and my wife works in nursing. Between my wife and I we earn around R715,000.00 per year. We pay our taxes and get free medical when needed. If I wanted to, I could apply for any postion that my qualifications are up to. I would not be awarded the position based on the colour of my skin.

SAB grew only through aquisition. I also see that it is listed in London and not SA.

I was going to write a long comment, but you all have said it before and better than me... and it still has not had any effect.

I see you're living the American dream; 100k is pretty good money in Canada, if your wife is in nursing tell her to look into nurse anesthesia, could double her pay.

Too bad North America will soon go down the drains with the liberals self-haters in charge :(.

I didn't let anything slip, being able to leave any country gives someone a better view of where they are. They can see both sides and then choose from there. But again you start with this 40 million rubbish without backing it up with any facts. There are more than 5 million middle income families in SA. You don't know what you are talking about.

They can't become boat people because the Atlantic is to far for them to sail in rickety boats to reach the hallowed shores of America.

Hmm now which one should I believe? The hallowed shores or the going down the drain?

Oooh I am so jealous

? You can only acquire other companies if you have the cash to do so? What does it matter that they are also listed in London, Head Office is down the road in Sandton?

so are your qualifications only good enough for a low level sales position, or are you too incompetent to make it in your profession of choice, now I understand why you left, couldn't handle the competition

Amongst many things, the following was also invented in SA or by South Africans:

  • Pool Cleaners (Like a "kreepy krauly")
  • The Rooivalk Helicopter
  • The Ceramic Discs used with Power Lines.
  • The Brush Tee (used in Golf, it's one of the most successful inventions in golf in the last 10 years)
  • Paypal
  • Several Gold Mining Methods was developed here
  • Artificial Wave Making machines
  • The CAT Scan
  • Oil from Coal
  • Pratley Putty - the only "glue" to ever go to the moon
  • The Speed Gun (used to measure the speed of fast moving objects)
  • The Popcorn Vending Machine
  • Colindictor (the first device used to record or log a telephone message)
  • Disguises for cellphone masts (e.g. trees, etc)
And many more. South Africa also:
  • has the largest Gold Reserves in the world
  • owns worldwide exclusivity on the name "Rooibos tea"
  • has produced the world's largest diamonds
  • changed the way wars were fought
  • led to the development of "camouflaged" soldier's uniforms
  • made massive contributions to the medical research fraternities the world over, including the invention of equipment, development of drugs and creation of medical prodecures
Not to mention the several thousands of inventions in the mining industry that is directly attributable to South Africans.

Though annoying as hell, the Vuvuzela is also a South African invention, and destined to ignite World Cup fever in millions of fans World Wide.

yeah great, and now it's slowly being torn down around our ears by the masses.

Where do you live exterminator: Loserville, SA. population 1?

I moved into sales because sales has the potential to make more than average. There are many people here who are in the same position as myself who have university and college degrees and are earning $60,000 to $100,000 in sales. Perhaps you are in IT because you can't handle the heat in a decent B2B sales position. And don't forget that if it wasn't for sales people you would probably wouldn't have a job.

The problem with South Africa, is that I hear the education levels are really going down. It used to be that people who were educated there would have no problem landing great positions in other countries. Now Saffers are not having it so easy. By the sounds of your last post, your ignorance would guarantee that you would not be hired at great companies, except perhaps at McDonalds, flipping burgers.

You said:
I love it here. If I didn't I would leave I am lucky in that I have that option.

If you love it so much why do you think you think you are "lucky" to have the option to leave. In my book that makes you a hypocrite, (in case you have forgotten the definition: a person who acts in contradiction to his or her stated beliefs or feelings). Why don't you get rid of your option to leave and tough it out.

You can only acquire other companies if you have the cash to do so? What does it matter that they are also listed in London, Head Office is down the road in Sandton?

You could also borrow money to buy companies. They are in London because they are hedging their bets on SA.

And how many of the below inventions are by people of Non-European heritage? .. How many are inventions BY original Africans FOR Africa ?

If a dog is born in a stable, does that make it a horse?

Makes you think.. doesnt it.... Maybe the African people are right - crime has allways been there, just the european people decided not to see it, and censor the media to protect themselves?

Serious case of small **** syndrome here.

Your a salesman, accept it man. If you are proud of it you wouldn't be trying to defend yourself like a child.

Quote of the week :D

PS: Just because I enjoy living in SA I am not stupid. Why would I give up something that harms no one? Another intelligent statement by IisCanadian.
