/me is now confused... :) didnt take much... but xtermin8or, As I originally posted - that was on topic was about the crime. Its allways been there - its the affluent that complain mostly about crime affecting the way they live. ... for the lower down people on the ladder, its allways been there.

I agree with that sentiment, and any debate on crime, turns into a racist argument - as the simple reality is that whites believe they are targets of crime now, and blacks believe that b4 1994, they were the targets as there was no police protection

Face facts... SA is 93% (thumbsuck) a Black country.... so the odds of a 'Black' criminal is high. its not race, its statistics.

it's perception - the perception is not that there is a high crime rate - the perception is that since 1994, the crime rate has been increasing - when clearly there is a decrease

this thread has gone every which way and fallen so far off the topic - lets try and bring it back as i posted before - the Norwich Union survey found that the majority of holidays end without incident

The majority of holidays go off without a hitch, but we would advise everyone to take the same precautions abroad as they would here. It’s very easy to forget simple security measures when you’re lying in the sun with a cocktail in your hand.

“Our research shows that you need to take a little extra care in certain countries, and of course make sure you are adequately covered by travel insurance.”

While Norwich Union investigated claims from lost belongings to theft, gastric problems to sun exposure, the biggest cause of problems when abroad is unforeseen medical emergencies - from the press release

It is a correct perception... Crime is moving out the townships and in to the other areas - it might be getting lower in the Karoo, but not Gauteng. Petty crimes are down, violent crimes are up ... but petty crime is Housebreaking, violent crime is Housebreaking and shooting someone. All that has happened is that the petty criminals have now got guns! of course petty crime will be lower as the petty criminal doesnt exist anymore. Climing a wall in houghton doesnt happen - but walking in when someone drives in with a gun to his head does work.

LOL@GavinMannion - OK, click - only after you pointed did I realise the dumbness :D

Xtermin8or, I don't see my self as either left or right(I think both are wrong) but that statement is incorrect, from my point of view anyways. Crime has increased and affected me on a personal level a lot more in the last, say 10 years, than before.

Its is spiraling out of control and statements like that or those of the government that it is only "perceived" will not help to improve the situation. Blaming it on paranoid white people will also not help.

When most people "perceive" it, does it become a real issue?

Anyways, this is an internet forum, who gives a ****? ;)

Strongly condemning the recent increase in attacks on tourists, Arnolds, who is the Mayco member for sport and amenities, said: "In the build-up to 2010 we must realise that attacks on tourists will be seen in a serious light internationally and will bring into question our ability to host a safe World Cup event."
Oh hang on. It can't be true - it'snot a government statistic.
