Yes, I am living in Greece, I'm of Greek origin and was born and raised in SA, left in 2005 so I know what I'm talking about. I get the feeling from your posts that youre an ignorant representative of the white minority, the major reason as to why I left SA, apart from the crime and the fact the Greece is one of the most livable countries in the world. I couldn't believe my eyes when I read your comment, get a job and make money. Very rich coming from someone like you, your ancestors are probably the reason that blacks in SA cant make money and the country is in the state it is today. Anyway, I'm not going to get into politics cause I've studied it at SA universities and can shoot you down every chance I get. The whole point I'm trying to make is that the WC is not just a sporting event, neither are the Olympics, etc. These huge events are a chance for the host nation to give a massive boost to the economy through the construction of various transportation systems, upgrading media facitlities (no, the SABC is not good enough right now), develop and plan future infrastructural changes, give the major CBDs a 'face-lift', combat the crime issue and basically put SA on the right road for the future. Thats all I've been saying and thats all I'm going to say. SA had the perfect chance to use this tournament to uplift its economy, I said nothing about not supporting poor states, its the best opportunity for a poor state but alas, the state is poor for a reason in the first place. A combination of a poor government system and ignorant people such as yourself. So like I said, the opportunity looks to be squanderred so you enjoy you're amstel (I doubt you're the black label type), watch your rugby and cricket and pay taxes for the stadiums being built for the next 100 years. After all, things seem to be that simple in your world. Don't bother replying anyway, I wont read it. There are a few individuals here who know what theyre talking about and a few who have no clue, so all you with no clue can keep the posts.

We had enough of chicken runners in this country.

During the sixties, seventies, eighties, nineties and now.

You were born, went to privileged schools (or are you to young) and studied here and then decided to run.

A lot of your kind found grand, grand parents or somebody else that thankfully made them part of another nation.

That is your choice.

Please keep your mouth off this country. We don't need your exulted advice nor was it asked for.

You have not been a year in Greece and all of a sudden you in your infinite wisdom, no doubt doubled with extended live experience, got on a soap box.

The rightwingers/leftwingers, enjoy, my respect for you guys are immeasureable more than for these know-all runners. At least we are still here and a lot of us intend doing so for quite some time.

Why are people so against people that decide to emigrate? Everybody has free will and the right to make their own choices. Don't judge them so harshly and maybe they won't judge you.

Try not to be an idiot all the time. Do you really believe that there is no difference between how the WC was hosted almost 30 years ago to the requirements of hosting it now?

You are truly a waste of space on this forum. All you do is chime in with worthless remarks that you hope will start an argument. Do you even have a mind of your own?

no icyrus, you are the idiot, FIFA did not decide to host the WC in SA 30 years ago, they decided it after the requirements had changed, and SA met those requirements, do you really think that an international organisation could be hoodwinked into thinking we can host the WC if we really can't

It is sad that some people are so jealous that the new democratic South Africa is capable of so much more than the whites only country could ever achieve that they can't see beyond their bigotry.

What is even sadder is that these people try to rubbish these accomplishments with nonsensical arguments, and speculation.

Blatter has said time and time again that South Africa will be ready to host the cup, that there are no alternative plans in another country and that they will step in to help if the need arises (which they doubt) - this is after all a FIFA event, not a SA event

This is the trust that the International community has in SA, a trust never accomplished by previous govts

Its not really as simple as that though, you have to admit it was at least partially a political decision. Remember they said before it was even awarded that the next world cup would be held in Africa. So that limited their choices somewhat. Its not as if SA was competing fairly against the rest of the world, it was limited to one continent in which, lets be honest, there's not much competition.

but previously when SA was beaten by Germany by only one vote, they were competing with the rest of the world, and already by then FIFA was confident that we could host the WC

I have absolutely nothing about people who emigrate. It is their choice.

What I detest is whenever they arive they start running the country down. Even worse, after they have left they have all the answers to uplift the country.

Why haven't they stayed and implemented their solutions?

They usually has lots to say about the past. It seems that some of them are even clearvoyant. Already seeing us failing with the WC. Already analyzed why we failed.

Go away.

You completely miss the point and come up with even more bullsh*t then normal but I'll ignore that because I expect nothing more from you.

When FIFA chose SA it wasn't because we were ready then, but because they believed we could be ready in time. Since the decision was made what has changed?

2010 World Cup costs soar to R12bn

SA’s projected bill for hosting the 2010 World Cup has ballooned to more than R12bn. Figures released by the organising committee today put the cost of stadiums at R8,3bn, transport at R3,7bn and broadcasting at R400m.

When SA won the bid in 2004 to become the first African hosts of the tournament, estimates put the total cost at R2,3bn.

The committee denied underestimating the costs, saying plans had changed because new soccer stadiums are being built rather than using existing rugby grounds as planned.

“There has been no increase in the costs of stadiums (but) we (will) have built five new stadiums specifically for football,” CE Danny Jordaan told a news conference.

SA will be unable to host the 2010 World Cup

Just my opinion.

Given the level of corruption and lack of abiltiy to get things done, it seems to me that South Africa will be unable to host the 2010 World Cup.

Remember that Colombia had the event taken away from them. This could happen to SA as well if it doesn't get it's act to together.

The fact is that there would have to be something close to a civil war for an event like this to e taken away from a country. Remember that Athens was deciding not to put a roof on the aquatic centre just months before the olympics. Most of the stadiums are already being upgraded or construction will start early in the new year.
The country isn't as messed up as Person thinks it is. So why doesn't he/she keep his/her negative opinions to themselves and stop messing up my Sunday with posts like this.
