So the vehicle was more or less 1000km/h off the mark at the time of being shut down?

No wonder they couldn't secure funding.

$32mil for what? Sound more like a money making scheme

No biggie. Records are there to be broken and the LSR is no different, it will eventually be. If not by Andy Green for Britain, then by somebody else. He can take solace in the fact that for now he is still the fastest man ever on wheels.

If each person in SA (given a population of 57m) contributed R10.17, that would secure their funding goal with some change for a Coca-Cola or two.

I'm still at a loss at why? What benefit will come from my R10.17 :)

Media publicity.

You realise that the 2010 FIFA World Cup in SA was a huge financial loss, but a great benefit to tourism and the wider economy.
