I appear to be out of the loop with regards to pre-expansion prep work - why so much crafting material stockpiling?

Seeing that I have not played for ages I'm wondering the same. Whats with all that prep. New expansion. WoD crap useless.

Personally I'm stocking up on leather (3250 raw beast hides) simply to level up my new DH to 700 before the expansion hits. Still going to have to run around and skin the **** out of everything to complete skinning.
Then I'm also sotcking up on fur, the reason for this is that the current hexweave bags will continue to be used in the new expansion. The new bag in legion only adds 2 slots and is stupid expensive to craft.
Then if you really want to go overboard you can start stockpiling mats for illusion enchants which will apparently be popular.

Soooo, I've been WoW free for just a bit more than 3 years and am now considering buying Legion... Not sure if #worth.
