HI guys! I'm joining the SA WoW community, just ordered the game, and also getting ADSL 512 soon (depending when telkom decides to EVENTUALLY come put the cables down!), so I cant wait to get playing! I was wondering the best servers to join etc? I'd prefer to mission around with other SA guys! Thanks!

I play on Stormrage. Even though the population is high, my latency is around the 600's which is extremely playable. You don't even notice that there is any lag, unless of course you head to Ironforge, but I digress. For the US version of the game, I'd definitely recommend the Stormrage server, lots of South Africans.

Hmm... I might get a pretty good deal on a EU version, but if not then I'll be on US...Does EU have a huge ping difference to US?

Thanks Guys!

One thing I'm disappointed about - I always wanted to be a troll axethrower :D but I heard that throwing weapons kinda suck.. Oh well! I can still be a dwarf! Makes up for it

anybody playing WoW since the 1.6 patch? i find it almost impossible after this patch since the latency has suddenly shot up to between 1500-4500 ms... and you get some spikes which stall the game almost every 3-5 minutes...

i read Blizzards forum and there are some very irate customers who say this lag has been present since 1.6 came out... any fellow SA players having similar issues?

I have noticed some noticeable lag since 1.6 especially in ST on Sunday. But nothing as bad as your latency. Still getting 450 - 600 with the occasional spike to 1200.

Another thing is at the end of the month, when everyone is killing their Cap, WoW becomes unplayable no matter what time of day your on, I feel like telkom sold us a Hotdog! They advertise ADSL as being usefull for online gaming, but there is no gaming package for us mmorpg fans.

Our only alternative is a ridiculously over- prices unshaped Package. ( And what grates my carrott even more, is WoW uses almost no bandwith, so it has such little effect on Telkoms international bandwith. (but the people who abuse their ADSL and manage to squeeze out 11 gigs from a 3 gig account get priorety over gamers.

(A tad unfair if you ask me)

I agree 100%, I've gone through the same situation last month and I was about to give up and fork over the money for a unshaped account, when I checked the forums and got hold of Clipse from nukecap.co.za My pings now range from 280 to 550, You do get the occasional spike now and then to about 1.2k but it has not lasted more than 2-3 minutes and its usually only in IF. I got the 1 gig option and I've put in about 7 days (168 hours) playing time this month trying to grind up to 60 as quick as I can on a new Char and I still have about 1/3rd of the account left. At the end of the month I'll post exactly how much I used on WoW alone this month for everyone to get an idea. I'll be topping it up soon so I can use the rest of my space next month.

It is a pain that we have to go a route like this to be able to play, but it really is worth it if you want those low pings and I would recommend it to everyone who can

It really is great, I've noticed a steady climb in my ping over the last few days, but only too the 600 ms mark, Which is still great considering we are reaching that end of the month download frenzy again. Tried with out Nukecap and it started off at 900ms before I even moved.

Also got sick of the lag in IF and bought 2 gigs of RAM yesterday... I felt like a kid on christmas morning running through the AH flipping around and jumping on everyone and everything with out my PC freezing :)

Find this inetresting, I have the titan panel UI mod and according to that the game never really addresses more than 25MB of memory  I wonder if that is maybe just pertaining to my character's local variables.

Anyway I have been contemplating buying another gig of RAM, I bought corsair xtreme originally so it's not going to be a cheap exercise  . So you reckon it's well worth it? Anyone else have a massive improvement after upgrading memory?

are you just referring to WoW or any games overall? the minimum nowadays for any latest game has to be 1GB of RAM... BF2 gobbles up that and more if you throw at it... all games also run better with 1GB or more of RAM.

So if you upgrade to 1.5 or 2 GB you should be safe. I have two 512MB Corsair XMS CL2 modules, and if i want to upgrade i would have to get identical since they are great for overclocking.

I have 1gig 2 X Corsair 512XMS buying another 2 is going to cost a whack of change :( , I have had some issues when running the Asus overclocking software with these memory modules they seem to be running at the limit as it is, from what I have read you actually need to turn the voltage down on the RAM prior to turning up the speed on the CPU and bus.

Hmmm not to sure on the titan panel, though could that be the amount of Memory the mods use? What is your memory for addon's set to?

I know Cosmos says I'm running out of Mem even though I know its now impossible, Keep on planning on loading the Titan panel mod and keep on forgetting when I get home :) IT really has made a big difference for me, It was that or a new Vid card and RAM seemed the better option now until I can get upgrade to PCI-E. My frame rate has almost doubled just from the RAM, and no lag flying anywhere anymore either, and Alt-Tabing out happens in blink of an eye. Last night I never even got the load screen when catching the TRAM in SW, I just ran though and I was in
