Yeah I guess, just to some like myself who don't earn much will need to sacrifice to make room for wow. :crying:

And being addictive you'll become more anti-social.. maybe :D

You'd be surprised how much money you end up saving if you get hooked on this game. Take into account transport costs + going out every weekend or whatnot. Once you're hooked, you prefer staying in.

Someone can't tell you if it's worth the money or not, you have to gauge for yourself.

Lol, it doesn't really matter if ur anti-social if ur happy with yourself, if ur not then yes being anti social is a bad thing. I just told that I'm not allowed to go out for a few months ( *****ing A right), so now im actually considering retail. I currently play on Magic-WoW a free server, and it sucks azz, seriously. but R270 for 60 days is like two weekends worth of drinking to me :X

After a few late nights my body can't handle wow so I'm starting to back off a little, I think I only need to play a few months here and there which I can afford.

You can pay via credit card right? is that a once off payment? it won't be billed after the month/s bought expires?

Yes, but it is a subscription. You can cancel the subscription after the payment has gone through and your gametime will expire normally.

I did something similar with Aion where you had to add a game card or subscription when you registered the game. I played, dislike it and cancelled the sub before my gametime expired. I just let it expire normally.

So is wits aware that you are violating copywrite law on their domain ?

You expect someone that is breaking the law to answer truthfully?

You are both very wrong :D

1. It's not a copyright violation. The client is free to use. Cloning a Blizzard server is against their terms and conditions though.
2. Which law are they breaking?

Copyright in South Africa is conferred and regulated by the Copyright Act No. 98 of 1978 (the Act) which came into force on 1 January 1979

http://www.bowman.co.za/IntellectualProperty/Copyright.asp

..Infringement which takes place by an unauthorised person actually copying or causing the copying of a work is commonly termed direct infringement. .

You can copy the client, but cannot copy the server. Copying the server is a the violation.

So:

yes Wits knows that the server exists
and there is no violation of any law.

a private server is not promoting piracy because all software used is licensed as open source freeware
and there is no infringement of copyright on any blizzard product

so I take it that it was some fool from here that bit&ed to CNS about the server, lets call him "the person" (as I know not who it is)
no biggy

There is a community in Wits that is interested in SQL development and C++
guess what
a WoW server is both of those
also students from UCT and UJ are interesting in this learning opportunity.

and because its a modern game, and a popular game the kids find it quite interesting and alot of students that aren't even doing Computer Science have joined that community because they like the game and now they have found a new interest in the games core and how it works

So the only thing that "the person" has done is disappoint lots of students as they have been working on SQL and C++ code almost all of the first term, and these holidays being quite long, they were going to present their work. but now they cant.
*clapping* for "the person"
real fu*&ing hero
