World will run out of Internet addresses "within weeks"

so what's the deal now? why does it seem like the world is procrastinating with this, why can't we just change over already? :confused:

I don't see this being a big problem - they will just start NATing more or use some fancy trickery like with the whole C-names thing. Most people and companies will simply go "Meh! they're running out of nothing in my deep freeze".

Glad you don't see this as a big problem.

If only companies that bought blocks of IP address space would sell the unused addressees back.

WOW servers all have IP addresses already. So do my frequent Porn sites and my movie torrent sites.

I'm good.

In my limited understanding, hardware changes are preventing the immediate switchover.

DUH, we know that already. It's time to introduce IPv6, not talk about running out of IPv4 addresses.

Sweet, income potential.

For Sale: 5 x local IP addresses, all offers considered.

didn't we have a similar article in december?

LOL, yeah, but that was months, now we down to weeks.

<spoiler alert>

In a few weeks an article will appear - World will run out of Internet addresses "within days"

</spoiler alert>

yes folks, you heard it from me first.

here we go again why don't they just throw more NAT at it :p , iam pretty sure i read a article about two months ago saying that the IP's where going to run out the following Thursday or some bs.

IMHO, we ran out over a decade ago. We've just been very frugal with what little we have by using hacks like NAT.

If you want to enjoy the benefits of v6 you don't have to wait for your ISP. Go read up on 6to4 and 6in4 and get yourself connected now. ;)

Is there a single IPv6-ready ISP in SA ?

posix.co.za are IPV6 ready now. Their hosting environment has had it for years. I also know Mweb have applied for a HUGE (/32) block of IPv6 addresses not sure what they'll get in the end and Hetzner claim probably middle of the year.

Don't hold your breath for IPV6 adsl. Telkom need to upgrade infrastructure before that will happen. Probably most ISPs offer some kind of 6to4 service before then.
