running vista with 1 gb of ram is like running xp with 256 meg or 512 meg ram

it runs but kuk

dont use less than 2gb and also if you can get 64 bit ultimate with 4 gig memory

runs like a dream :)

no drivers issues on 64 as far as i know

Yeah, maybe that would be a better option. 64- bit with 4Gb RAM. Apparently my AMD 5200+ can run 64-bit thingies. Running 64-bit install of Linux at the moment which is a bit buggy, but that's not Vista.

None that is currently made. I think amd was 64 bit since athlon 64 and Intel since petium 4. Not sure on actually which intel model was first with 64 bit but you will struggle to find any cpu on the market that isn't 64 bit.

Question: I currently have 2 x 1GB TeamElite RAM that I bought from Prophecy last year. If I get two more one gig sticks, does it matter what make/model they are? Are there any compatibility issues I need to be aware of?

Just the speeds, if you're running DDR2667 and you buy DDR2800 then your 800 will scale down to 667. In other words, try and run the same speed ram for max performance ;)

I've had the ultimate version running on 1GB, was terrible, extremely greedy with ram. Now I'm back with XP. Thinking bout running ultimate again, as i hav 2GB now ;) Any1 out there, preferably online gamers, hav issues with vista? And how much ram u running? 8GB ???

I've got 2GB DDR2 667 on Vista Ultimate and it runs fine... Just lags a little with the Aero theme...

2Gb should be ok on a Desktop, I doubt a Notebook will run that well with 2Gb

Turn off the desktop search services and some of the other non essential bloat and suddenly Vista feels a lot smoother.

I might get Vista home basic for DX10 gaming but honestly, I think it's a load of rubbish.

You fell into the M$ DX10 money trap :p

As for 2 GB's should be fine.

Well I'm now running 6GB ram, what a difference! My PC has +/- 4GB available anytime :) I've also got Windows Search and Super fetch switched off. When I exit Crysis it jumps to desktop much faster. In fact, while burning a DVD with Nero (which hogs the ram) I can now open other apps as if Nero wasn't running! It's superfast ;)

I was running Vista business on my Lenovo X61s, ran fine for awhile, then hit a slump and became slow as molasses. I am now on XP and it runs like a rat up a drain pipe. Stay away from Vista, it is evil! ;)

Maybe you should check what you should doubt and what you shouldn't. I ran Vista on full capability and full graphics with a Core 2 Duo and an Nvidia mobile graphics card.... never an ounce of lag anywhere... Others will say the same.

It largely depends what you are going to use it for.

I am running a Via 1.5Ghz CPU & PC2500E mobo with 2 Gigs of ram and it runs. No hassles, with onboard graphics via the mobo at that.
