Would a 6u cabinet or 9u cabinet support a business printer?

Weird one,

A client has this weird layout, in the middle of the office he has a printer on top of a small desk, underneath is all their switches and routers which looks bad with all the wires hanging loose.

Now he wants a cabinet rather and get all these inside and then place the printer on top.

Would a 6u or 9u support the weight? Not sure of the model or brand of the printer but it's just below hip height at least.

Obviously depends on the quality of the cabinet. Most are mild steel and will probably hold up fine. I'd be more concerned about Jim putting his coffee down while he's waiting for his printing, followed by an "oops". It's best to wall mount or place far out of reach from the end-user.

^ this. Network cabinet to be wall-mounted (or in an inaccessible place) and a proper table (or desk) for the printerer. Plus the chances of somebody "wanting to neaten up the wires" will be effectively zero.

You all know about "wanting to neaten up the wires" syndrome.

Where are the server located by the way? Can't the cabinet share the same space as the server so that both are in a secured environment?

I would go further than that, convert the server to a rackmounted unit and put both in a secure location. Neater, tidy, no fuss.

simple answer is no, if you state the printer is hip height it could weigh anywhere upward of 150kg, that will most probably pull the rawl bolts out the wall eventually

Printer heat and network equipment... that is my 2c.

Also, to the others suggesting the (correct way) of moving the network equipment. I am assuming this "boss" is stingy with his money and will not approve the order of moving said equipment. Normally in this case, I let me prove to themselves that it was a bad idea.

Ok so my colleague sat on it ( weighing in at 75kg ) and not a a budge or crack nothing, sturdy still.

So safely i can say the printer can be placed on top it seems.

Completely ignoring the other advice in this thread about not having a printer on top of networking equipment.

Yes, the cabinet will hold the printer fine

Framework: High-strength steel with a 60kg weight capacity
- Cost-effective solution for smaller installations where space is limited

- 9U Dimensions WxHxD: 600 x 500 x 450

I wouldn't. And how do you want to work inside and maintain stuff inside a wall box standing on the ground that's only 50cm high.

Buy a 22U Cabinet and do it properly.

already tested it :) Sat on it with my 76kg ass and it is solid!
So the printer would be safe, the owner would never pay for a 22u

9u was his own choice

But anyway everything is sorted and it's being installed tomorrow. Printer is way under my weight so ya
