Would you buy from PC Zone, Durban?

Hey guys.

PC Zone have some really good prices on LCD's at the moment, though I'm a little hesitant to spend a few grand there, particularly worried about aftersales service: ie, warranty and returns.

I normally buy from a select few dealers / online retailers.

they are a bit rude and useless but their products and prices are good

I'd never buy hardware online, I'd buy those types of goods from a 'shop' that's close or thru a company (close).

Simply because, if it buggers out, you have to pay to send it back etc and then wait... buying it locally, you can take it there and it's just busy.

I bought the same monitor from them and luckily it has worked fine and has no dead pixels. Just confirming what bboy said through. They are sometimes a bit rude - especially if something breaks.

If you have a thick skin and a thin wallet, they are definitely worth using though. I have yet to find a retailer (including the online ones) that can match their prices.

I agree with you entirely.

Here's a question is a warranty worth anything for a Motherboard, CPU or Router? If it packs up, the retailer has to send to it the manufacturer to repair. This usually take between 3 and 4 weeks. Can you survive without your pc for that long? I can't. I'd prefer the products mentioned above to be:

1. cheaper with no warranty; or
2. more expensive but with the option of an immediate swop/replacement.

Bought my HP530 laptop from them. Pre-sales service is pretty good. I did have an issue with downgrading to XP and one of their techs assisted me, no problems. Haven't had a warranty claim though ;)

I think so long as you establish the warranty terms there in the shop and you have the warranty you shouldn't have a problem.

I've had the occasion to return a faulty graphics card to PC Zone. The shop was very busy that day and I was in there for over 2 hours. Those who know how small and cramped the store is and how slow their service is know what hell that can be.

They gave me the blurb about having to send it away to test etc and by that time my patience had worn a bit thin. After an exchange of words they just swapped it out.
So I can at least say from personal experience, they do exchanges on the spot even though a bit of persuasion might be required :D

They seem alright. I sometimes buy non-essential hardware from them. Their Ballito shop phone line always seems to be engaged. Had a Wireless Access Point go faulty after a lightning storm. They sent it for repairs/testing/replacement. Took about 9 days. For business systems I need a NBD response so I buy those elsewhere.

I've bought two full PC's from PCZone and a host of other products - I've never had a problem with any of em so I guess I can't really comment on their warranties etc...

I'm also gonna buy one of those 22" Wide Samsungs but I reckon a few hiccups with their after service is worth the R500 I'm gonna save on the monitor ;-)

I buy non critical stuff there only, but frankly don't like supporting them because of their attitude of poor service. They seem to think because their prices are good they don't have to offer any basic service or courtesy with it. Check out HelloPeter for some other comments if you wish.

Six PC's and counting :D Slow service and sometimes arrogant but I can be too so ..... Have never had to send anything back. The new Acer 20" has a fetch-repair-return warranty for 3 years so I'm covered :D

I have been using them for more than 2 years. Had no issues. They are always busy. The shop seems too small.

I bought 2 of those dual core pc's on the top of their pamphlet last week. Very good. The MB is an ASUS, DVD is LG, HDD is Seagate. So all good products IMO.

I guess all branded products like Acer, Hp etc etc will be covered by the manufacturer. You can take it straight to them with your proof of purchase. The same with Makro. Take it to the manufacturer. It's quicker.
