Would you consider this stealing?

Streaming a sporting event live, that is not being showed by any paid for means in SA - and will not ever be shown live or otherwise? mainly talking tennis - but I am sure rugby league, AFL and a bunch of american sports would fall in here.

Personally, I would have thought this would be a no brainer. But some (my father for one), says no it's wrong.

Just talking about the above scenario.

If anything, I would have thought the stadium advertisers wouldn't complain having a few more eyes viewing.

You're asking the linux distro crowd here :).
Anyway - you're not taking anything away from anyone, so by a strict definition of stealing you're not doing any such thing. They aren't short a few cents because you streamed it via some online service.

Technically against copyright law - so regardless of what one "considers" it its illegal.

Whether its ethical...thats up to every person to decide on their own.

Does copyright law for a given territory cover events not being broadcast or distributed by rightsholders in that territory? I don't know if that's necessarily the case...the "injured" party is in another territory or hasn't got a distribution deal.

It may not be illegal but it is unethical, imo.

Surely, for a theft to have taken place, there needs to be an aggrieved party?
The question of it being theft and it being wrong are two separate things.
I don't think anyone here it saying it's stealing. Whether it's ethical / legal however...
(Personally I'd have no issue with it)

If there is no legal way of watching it here, tough shyte for the rights owners, stream away with a clear conscience
